“What is LED?
It is the most popular technology on 4K and Full HD televisions today. The principle of LED is based on light-emitting diodes arranged at the back of the screen. It is an evolution of the LCD which consumes more and offers lower performance in terms of rendering.
There are currently two types of LED backlighting: Edge LED and Full LED (or direct LED). The first has, as its name suggests, the particularity of distributing the LEDs around the edges of the screen while the Full LED backlighting offers better homogeneity since the LEDs are distributed over the entire screen.
On some models, whether they are Edge LED or Full LED TVs, there is a feature called Local Dimming which allows you to turn off or on a single area of the screen, to allow blacks to be displayed. deeper and thus increase the contrast ratio of the image.

“What is OLED?

🔎What does QLED mean?
In many ways, QLED (Quantum Light-Emitting Diode) is just a marketing invention. In 2017, Samsung named its screens at the forefront of technology “SUHD”. Although UHD stands for Ultra High Definition, a name better known today as 4K, Samsung has never explained the S denomination of SUHD (Super? Supreme? Samsung?). And since this “SUHD” did not have the expected success in the market, Samsung renamed it QLED. Of course, QLED bears a strong resemblance to OLED, indicating either premeditation in confusing the consumer’s mind or complex technological inferiority. Or both together.
Because, in fact, QLED – which comes from the quantum dot light emitting diode – is a very different technology from OLED. The paradox about this technology is that QLED TVs are not, in fact, QLED TVs. In principle, a QLED display should be similar to an OLED display, with a panel made up of light-emitting pixels that can be turned on and off individually. But QLED TVs can’t do this – like LED screens, they need a backlight panel for their lighting.
QLED displays are actually based on Quantum Dot technology, which is also found under another name Triluminos at Sony, Color Prime at LG. Screens equipped with this technology incorporate nanocrystals that emit light when subjected to an electric current. Combined with the backlight, they have the advantage of offering shades of color that come as close as possible to reality and a higher brightness rate than that found on OLED TVs.

In today’s world of TV screens, the big battle is mainly between OLED and QLED technologies. QLED TVs have won over a large number of users in the premium TV market. OLED, despite an expensive and problematic manufacturing process, has seen rapid growth in consumer preferences, enjoying the support of major manufacturers LG and Sony.
QLED technology, meanwhile, came out of nowhere in 2017, initially as a sort of rebranding of Samsung’s SUHD technology, which is now found on most TVs sold by the South Korean giant. If you have a limited budget you can also choose a TV with LED backlight (Full LED or Edge LED) which represents for a lower cost an excellent alternative to more expensive models than those with OLED or QLED technologies.

TVs equipped with HDR (High Dynamic Range) technology have a higher contrast ratio, which means brighter white and more intense black. They also have increased accuracy in color representation, which in theory makes the images look closer to reality. The display creates the correct color for each pixel based on the metadata provided by the images in question. HDR technology improves both the contrast ratio and color reproduction.
“What is Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos?
In short, Dolby Atmos, like Dolby Vision, are technologies that dramatically improve the audio and visual experience of movies at home or at the theater. This technology is not new, having been around since 2012, but it has only recently arrived in “consumer” products such as smartphones, home HiFi systems or smart TVs.
