WhatsApp officializes Communities, reaction with emojis and more news – Tecnoblog

THE WhatsApp announced several news this Thursday (14). The messenger finally made official the Communities, a new function that will allow you to gather groups from school, work and the like in one place. The messaging app will also receive reactions with emojis and has expanded the limit of participants in voice calls.

Communities have been awaiting for a few months. At the end of last year, it was revealed that the novelty would facilitate the organization of groups. Later on Tuesday (12), a screenshot anticipated that the tool would have a dedicated tab on the home screen to view collective conversations gathered in groups.

The feature, however, was only confirmed by the platform this Thursday (14). According to the messenger team, Communities will allow you to organize groups under an “umbrella”. That is, it will be possible to gather collective conversations that deal with a common subject in a single place.

“WhatsApp Communities will allow people to bring together related groups under a framework that works for them,” they said.

Communities make it easy to organize groups

The function reminds me a bit of Discord and Slack, which separates servers into channels. That is, users can easily organize discussion into smaller groups without needing another app. After all, if it’s the case of a school, it doesn’t make sense for parents to use another app just to talk to teachers, talk to other guardians and receive communications on a daily basis.

This was an example given by WhatsApp, by the way. In a demonstration, the messenger assembled a broadcast channel for an entire school and groups for the fourth and sixth grade classes in a Community. But you can also do this with social projects, condominiums, study groups, work and any other situation.

The messaging app also promises some extra features. It is the case of triggering updates to the entire community and control over which groups can be included in the grouping. According to the messenger team, developers will have “powerful tools” (wow!) to control Communities.

WhatsApp revealed other news this Thursday (14). Among them are the emoji reactions, a feature that was already available to users of the trial version. The messenger even announced the increase in file sharing up to 2GBa change that was also expected a few weeks ago.

Another improvement is voice calls. According to those responsible for the messaging app, the conferences now support up to 32 people and have received a “entirely new design”. Finally, the messenger announced that the Group admins will be able to remove messages from any member in conversations.

And when will all this reach users?

The news will be released gradually. WhatsApp also recalled that it will not implement “any significant product changes in Brazil before the elections”, as informed during a meeting with the TSE. Therefore, Brazilians will need to wait a while to gain access to the Communities.

But the other functions must be released before that. To the technoblog, the messenger’s advice said that voice calls for up to 32 people are now available globally to users – provided, of course, that the app is up to date. Reactions will be implemented soon.

Also according to the messenger, the sharing of files of up to 2 GB and the deletion of messages by the administrator are still in the testing phase. Resources will be released globally “as soon as testing is complete”.
