Jakarta, IDN Times – Indonesian Vice President Ma’ruf Amin asked the ministries and institutions responsible for poverty data in Indonesia to use the methodology as used by the Central Statistics Agency.
In an effort to improve poverty data, Ma’ruf provided directions including updating the Integrated Social Welfare Data (DTKS) through national field verification.
1. A public consultation forum must also be held when processing data
This was conveyed by Ma’rufsaat chairing a meeting related to the Consolidation of Poverty Data at the Office of the Vice President of Jalan Merdeka Utara, Central Jakarta.
“In carrying out field verification, it should be done using a methodology like that of BPS in 2015, including the Public Consultation Forum (FKP) at the village / kelurahan level,” Ma’ruf said through his written statement, Friday (6/26).
This verification, Ma’ruf continued, requires preliminary data from previous DTKS and which have been collected from various regions.
“It is necessary to build an independent registration mechanism to complete the major national level updates as well as to become a dynamic update tool real time, “he said.

“Of course they must go through a verification process first to be included in the database,” he said.
He explained, an example of best practice in managing social protection data in other countries is by dividing the management of social protection data into beneficiary social assistance data.
“I want the Coordinating Minister for PMK and the Head of BAPPENAS to conduct a study on this matter and report it to me,” he said.
3. The Vice President asks for a data monitoring team
The former Rais Aam NU also revealed that this social protection data is very valuable data for a country, so it needs good governance oversight.
“I heard there was something called the Data Working Group. I want a kind of supervisory team, whatever it is called, it doesn’t need to be too formal. This team is in charge of ensuring the DTKS management and accuracy policy, before DTKS is signed by the Minister of Social Affairs. Please Coordinate Minister for PMK and the ministers to think about it, “he said.
4. The Vice President requests internet access in all regions to be increased to facilitate data integration
When closing the introduction of the meeting, Ma’ruf also reminded that in terms of updating data, independent registration, and in the distribution of social assistance itself, it cannot be separated from the role of information technology, and information technology cannot be separated from the availability of internet networks.
“I want to say that the availability of internet networks in stages throughout the country needs to be supported,” he said.
The meeting was also attended by Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian, Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani, Minister of Social Affairs Juliari Batubara, Minister of National Development Planning / Head of Bappenas Suharso Manoarfa, Head of BPS Suhariyanto, and Deputy Director for the Coordination of Poverty Prevention and Social Protection Tubagus Achmad Choesni.
