The Galaxy Z Fold 3 is now official. Samsung announced it at its Unpacked conference. As expected, we don’t have a revolution here, but a smooth evolution from the previous iteration. Two things to remember, however, the compatibility with the S Pen as well as the arrival of the camera under the panel.
The Galaxy Z Fold 3 is not a revolution. Newly announced at the Unpacked conference, the third model in the range wants to build on its achievements, while being technically up to date. So we always have the same format, with an interior screen that can be folded like a book as well as an exterior screen. However, Samsung still brings some interesting new features.
So we have two Super AMOLED panels, an exterior of 6.2 inches of 2268 x 832 pixels (which goes to 120 Hz, unlike that of the Z Fold 2) and a folding interior of 7.6 inches of 2208 x 1768 pixels ( at 120 Hz as well). The largest is endowed a camera located directly under the slab. It is true that it is the least used on this format and rather than withdrawing it, Samsung preferred to camouflage it. An intelligent solution and above all a first for the brand. Once the terminal is open, we therefore have a full display, without an unsightly punch.
The Z Fold 3 welcomes the S Pen
This screen is also compatible with styluses S Pen Fold Edition (49 euros) and S Pen Pro (99 euros), which is larger and can be used on other terminals of the brand. Note that they are not included in the smartphone box and must be purchased separately (excluding pre-order). The Z Fold 3 doesn’t have a notch to store the stylus, like the Note before it, but Samsung is marketing a case that does.
Regarding the technical characteristics, we have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor with 12 GB of RAM and 256 or 512 GB of storage. The battery, meanwhile, is 4400mAh, which might sound a bit tight, but we’ll see in use. Finally, the photo module consists of three 12 megapixel sensors, a main one, an ultra wide angle and a Telefoto. The photo part was the weak point of the Z Fold 2 and the problem does not seem to be resolved with this third model.
A Z Fold 3 has a new design
The design part has evolved a lot. We still have the same format, we said, but with adjustments in terms of size and weight. When folded, the product is 67.1 x 158.2 x 16 mm and unfolded, 128.1 x 158.2 x 6.4 mm. On the scale we have a weight of 271 grams, that’s 11 grams less than the Z Fold 2.

For the visual part, we still have something similar with an aluminum back (this was only the case for the Bronze Gold model of the Z Fold 2) and the hinge remains the same. We still notice that the photo module has changed slightly. It is not inspired by that of the S21 (too bad), but adopts a harmonious vertical alignment. The terminal will be marketed in three colors: silver, black and green. One last point that is important: the Z Fold 3 is now IPX8 certified, therefore water resistant.
A beautiful smartphone on paper, therefore, which is still very expensive. We remember that the first two models were sold at more than 2000 euros. Samsung is making a little effort here, since the Z Fold 3 is displayed from 1799 euros. It’s less, but we’re still in the ultra premium realm. To get a foldable smartphone at a more correct price, it will be necessary to turn to the Z Flip 3, announced at the same time and displayed from 1059 euros. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 will be available for sale on August 27th.
