The snobs and the surprises among Oscar nominees 2021

After a year in which practically all cinemas were closed and the Oscar eligibility period was extended, the list of nominees for the biggest prize of the seventh art was finally released.

Known for not having female nominations in the “Best Direction” category, the academy surprised with two female names: Chloe Zhao for Nomadland and Emerald Fennell by Beautiful Vengeance. The features were also nominated for “Best Picture”. This is the first time, in the history of the Oscars, that two films directed by women appear in the most important category.
