Samsung Galaxy Fit 2 Smartband Review: Affordable and with good features [análise/vídeo]

O Galaxy Fit 2 is the new bet of Samsung in the smartband category to compete directly with the Mi Band 5. For R $ 329, the wearable tries to attract the attention of the consumer with AMOLED screen, long battery life and many fitness features. But does it pay off?

I used the Samsung Galaxy Fit 2 in the last few weeks and I share below my experience of use, going through design, screen, battery, health resources, fitness and, finally, I tell if it is worth the investment or not.

Design and canvas

I start with the design that has nothing very special. Galaxy Fit 2 has the same features as other smartbands found on the market with a slim, compact design and is available in red and black. The first color, in fact, looks more like a salmon and is very beautiful. Still, I believe that Samsung missed the opportunity to include other options.

I used the Galaxy Fit 2 for several days in a row and just took it off to sleep. I share this to reinforce that I did not feel any discomfort during use and this is also due to the weight, since the weight is only 21 grams, and it is still firm on the wrist.

At the front, the touchscreen is 1.1 inches with a resolution of 294 x 126 pixels. It is a good step forward, considering that the first Galaxy Fit is 0.95 inches and has a resolution of 240 x 120 pixels. The new generation maintains the quality standard of the brand and delivers a screen with strong colors and active brightness, all thanks to the AMOLED panel present here; it’s really a great little screen.

For adventurers on call, the Galaxy Fit 2 is water resistant, so you can enter the pool normally with the device, for example. But the company does not recommend exposing the smartband to high pressure water. In fact, it can handle being plunged to a depth of up to 50 meters.

Features and usage experience

The Galaxy Fit 2 is a bracelet that allows the user to check the number of steps, heart rate, stress level and monitor sleep on a recurring basis and always synchronized to the brand’s app. In the first days you can get lost in the interface, but then you can browse it without being surprised.

The main screen, which can be configured to your liking, is activated whenever you raise your arm or when you touch a “home button” below the display. Through the Galaxy Fit app, available for both Android and iPhone (iOS), I was able to modify the home screen and Samsung has more than 20 watchfaces; some simpler, others more artistic and always very beautiful.

In addition to the health features I mentioned earlier, Galaxy Fit 2 also features a stopwatch, alarm, temperature and a feature to remind you to wash your hands.

With regard to the experience of using all these features, the smartband attended to me efficiently and the alerts for me to leave the computer and move my body were very useful in my daily life.

When analyzing the accuracy, I could see that the Samsung gadget tends to increase the step count. I also noticed a certain inaccuracy when he was marking 65 steps in the morning before I even put on the bracelet. I still synchronized with the application to try to “restart” this number and even so there was no change. The stress level was able to detect well when I was more anxious and calmer.

For those who practice sports, the company introduced here modes for running, walking, cycling and swimming, but it does not bring GPS, as usual. When we look at the resources dedicated to sports, the Mi Band 5 stands out as it delivers more options, including jumping rope, yoga, treadmill, among others.

During the trial period, I used Galaxy Fit 2 connected to an iPhone 11 via the Galaxy Fit app. The settings between them even work properly, but it bothered me that I had to download another app to be able to view health data. In Galaxy Fit you can create alarms, adjust the weather information, on the display, however, if you want to monitor the stress level, heart rate and other statistics of my activities outside the bracelet, I have to install Samsung Health, mandatorily.

Despite this, the connectivity system is very stable and this thanks to the precision of Bluetooth 5.1 available on the device. I spent several days with the Galaxy Fit 2 and there were no connection problems during use and the bracelet syncs with my phone instantly.

If you want, you can still mirror the cell phone notifications on the Galaxy Fit 2, another way that worked accurately in my tests. When someone called, it was possible to refuse the phone call via the smartband, but it would be interesting to accept it, too, wouldn’t it?

Samsung promises up to 21 days of battery life with little use and 15 days if you use it more intensively. It has 159 mAh capacity, that is, much larger than the previous version and is still higher than the competitor. For comparison, the first Galaxy Fit has 120 mAh and the Mi Band 5, 125 mAh, only.

I did a hard test with the device brightness at maximum and paired to my cell phone to display all notifications. Samsung’s smartband managed to fulfill the agreement and I spent two weeks on battery and on the sixteenth day it registered 5%, therefore, an excellent autonomy.

Samsung Galaxy Fit 2: is it worth it?

I had a very positive experience with the Samsung Galaxy Fit 2. The bracelet is very comfortable, the small screen displays bright colors thanks to AMOLED, there are various watchfaces and communication with the cell phone is great, although I have to use two different apps to have complete usability.

Its proposal to be a wearable that helps in the quality of life was what most caught my attention; the alert to move my cut is an example of this.

The long battery life is another hit and an important differential in relation to the Mi Band 5, but the South Korean product owes other sports modes and the step count was not efficient. Therefore, if you depend a lot on the resource, it is worth analyzing other bracelets. I also missed more colorful options, as we found in the competition.

Although it costs R $ 329 on the Samsung website, you can already find the Galaxy Fit 2 for around R $ 230 and even less for online retail, a very interesting value. The Mi Band 5 can also be found for that price, so now it is a pleasure.
