Review Smart Lamp Wiz A60: colorful lights and good integration [análise/vídeo]

Wiz is a Franco-Asian company from Signify that arrived in Brazil at the beginning of 2021. The company promises to democratize the intelligent lighting system and, to start, brought the Smart Lamp Wiz A60, with 16 million colors, 800 lumens, chat with virtual assistants and deliver a very complete application for you to control the device.

In relation to the competition, the connection with Signify, which owns Philips Hue, one of the best smart bulbs, but with no generous price, weighs in its favor. Does the Wiz A60 deliver the same quality? Is it worth paying the R $ 140 that the brand charges? That’s what we’re going to find out in this review.

Installation and configuration

If you already have a Positivo or Elsys smart light bulb installed at home, then you won’t even have a hard time adapting to the Wiz model – the installation process is basically the same. Like the competitors, the A60 works with Wi-Fi, but only on the 2.4 GHz frequency and is not compatible with Bluetooth or Zigbee, like Philips Hue. It is not a problem, because models from other popular brands also only operate through WI-Fi.

To configure and control the lamp remotely, Wiz made the Wiz Connected app available, which is the most complete smart lamp app I’ve ever tested, surpassing even Hue’s. The setup process is very easy, fast and there were no failures during the installation. To the Tecnoblog, Wiz provided two more units of the gadget on loan to test the integration: I was able to configure both at the same time in the application without problems and they work integrated.

You can set an icon to know if you are turning on the lamp for the lamp or the desk lamp in the office, for example. In addition, to help with the organization, if you want to buy 10, 20 or 50 lamps, the person can create groups in Wiz Connected with the rooms of your home: there is a living room, bedroom, garage, kitchen, hallway, basement and others. And yes, the app gives you the possibility to connect all of them at once.

The integration list is quite extensive, this means that the Wiz A60 can communicate with Alexa, Google Assistant and has support for Siri Shortcuts, SmartThings, If This Then That (IFTTT) and other platforms. As I already use Alexa on a daily basis, I opted for this link with Amazon’s assistant, and I can share that the first interaction was very agile and efficient. Better than Positivo’s Smart Lamp, which uses Tuya Smart technology, and always tests my patience during integration with personal assistant.

Usage experience (positive and negative points)

The Wiz A60 is an LED bulb for the common E27 nozzle, it has 8.8 watts of power and a luminous flux of 800 lumens, just like Philips Hue. It can reach various levels of white that vary between 2,200 and 6,500 K. The service life, which here is 15 thousand hours, does not match the number of most lamps on the market, which generally exceeds 20 thousand hours. Not that this is a huge problem, but you can’t ignore the difference, given that the model from Xiaomi, Elgin, Elsys and others has 25,000 hours.

The cold tones of the Wiz A60, which have a wide variation, please me. The main white options can light up a small room and you will most likely not need to purchase another lamp. The application also features warm, cold white, daylight, night light and it is possible to customize to find the ideal cold color for the environment.

The product follows the competition and delivers 16 million colors, however, in practice, I was unable to light a smaller space with most options. Green, red and blue are dark, as are purple, pink and yellow, especially. You will get a slightly better result by reducing the hue, making these options less warm.

This shows that just one lamp may not be enough if you want to enjoy all the colors in a bedroom, in the office or in the living room. The color was more accurate in a corridor. Unlike orange, blue, yellow, red, green, aqua green, purple and pink illuminated very well and still made the environment beautiful and pleasant.

What I liked most about the Wiz app are the pre-defined effects for you to take better advantage of the options, they are super detailed settings that I didn’t find in the competition. There is the “Christmas” mode, which leaves the lamp flashing green and red; there is “Romance”, with the hottest colors; “Fireplace” mode, which varies between orange and yellow; there is the “Deep dive”, to make the space all blue and there are many others.

I also liked the “Festa” style: in three different places in the same room, each lamp was varied in a color and, really, the effect felt festive. The cool thing is that, in addition to controlling the color intensity, the user is able to control the speed that these colors change.

The app brings tips (or modes) of lighting for each moment, such as movie night, relaxing night, reading in bed, good morning light, for makeup, among others. The person can still check the energy consumption, program the product to turn on when you wake up or turn off when going to bed. And there is the Vacation mode, which is a sensational feature: while you are very relaxed enjoying your vacation on the beach, just activate it and the lights come on in the morning and at night to simulate that there are people at home – and to trick potential thieves. I didn’t go on a trip, but I tested the feature and it really worked.

Smart Lamp Wiz A60: is it worth it?

I have evaluated many smart lamps and I can say that the Wiz A60 is one of the best on the market today among the most affordable models. The reviews of other users do not let me lie. Installation is easy, integration is efficient and the cool color options can calmly illuminate any space, unlike the Smart Wi-Fi Lamp Elsys. The application also earns points for being complete and stable, leaving the competition behind – far behind.

However, it is not possible to ignore the limitations of this product in relation to competitors and common light bulbs. The Wiz A60 takes a while to respond when changing colors, but this is not exclusive to this model. The service life could be longer and the colored options are not so strong, only reinforcing the main limitation of smart lamps today.

To draw more attention, Signify will have to review the price charged, as, in my view, the R $ 140 does not remove the title of accessible product, but many Brazilians will avoid this option, since it is possible to find Positivo models, from Elsys and Multilaser for much less. I spent a month evaluating the Wiz A60 and I really liked what I saw; therefore, it is worth the investment during retail promotions.
