With minor design changes, a new processor and carrying the cheapest 5G cell phone title in Brazil, the Realme 7 5G is already among us. Its launch price of R $ 1,899 showed how much the company is committed to making noise and reaching the top 3 sales in Brazil in five years. With the departure of LG, which failed to continue in the segment, now may be the time for the Chinese to attract the local consumer. Does Realme 7 5G help?
Like a good intermediate Chinese, the new device delivers to its owner a 6.5-inch screen with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 800U processor, 8 GB of RAM, 5,000 mAh battery and fast charger. I spent a few days with Realme 7 5G and we will find out if it is worth the investment below.
Realme 7 5G video review
O Tecnoblog it is an independent journalistic vehicle that helps people make their next purchase decision since 2005. Our analyzes are not intended for advertising, so they highlight the positive and negative points of each product. No company has paid, reviewed or had early access to this content.
Realme 7 5G was provided by Realme on loan and will be returned to the company after testing. For more information, visit tecnoblog.net/etica.
In relation to the first versions, Realme 7 5G has undergone few changes in the project. The cell continues with a beautiful construction and leaves the factory with a semi-premium finish that makes a good impression. I tested the blue mist model, but you also find the new radiant silver version, which bears the name Realme in bold letters on the back of the device, somewhat reminiscent of Xiaomi’s Poco X3.
The most interesting thing is that it does not look like Realme 7, but 7 Pro, since the 5G variant started to adopt the camera module in cooktop instead of the headlight format of the simpler model. The plastic backing material, however, catches fingerprints in the blink of an eye, luckily the company added a transparent cover to the box. In addition to wearing the protective accessory, the most clumsy will have to be careful on the beach and in the pool, as the phone does not carry any certification against water and dust.
On the sides are the fingerprint reader, which is surprisingly fast, the volume buttons and the chip and memory card drawer. The USB-C port is at the bottom and the 3.5 mm audio port, which is now extinct on many devices, is still available on the Realme 7 5G, but the headset is not shipped in the box.
Screen and sound
I always say that the screen is one of the highlights of the Chinese cell phones, especially since it has been following the trend in the refresh rate. The Realme 7 5G has a 6.5-inch LCD panel with Full HD + resolution (2400 x 1080 pixels) and the frontal utilization is 90.5% – the edges are really thin for an LCD and there is only a slightly more protruding chin. . Like the Galaxy A52 5G, the Realme smartphone has a refresh rate of 120 Hz, that is, twice as much as the Realme 7 Pro. However, it is slightly behind when compared to the A52 5G, which offers a Super AMOLED panel .
In usability, with this rate, many people should not experience impressive and super impacting changes when changing the setting to 120 Hz. Without a doubt, it can make more sense on devices with more powerful hardware and, especially, when your favorite game supports the technology, delivering an even more fluid experience. Am I complaining about Realme? No, but I must say that the navigation is quite interesting, but it does not make my eyes shine.
For other media consumption activities, the device’s screen even pleases and provides a good experience for those who enjoy watching movies, series and playing on the phone. The contents are more comprehensive in a screen with few borders, without notch and the viewing angles are good. The speaker, in turn, is not stereo, at least it is loud. With a connected headset, you can activate Dolby Atmos for more immersive sound.
In software, the device reaches the hands of the consumer running Android 10. However, there is still a lack of more objective communication about Android updates. We know that Realme 7 and 7 Pro are scheduled to receive Android 11 now in the second half of 2021. The Tecnoblog they even questioned the company during the launch press conference, but they were unable to share a date for the 5G version to be updated.
I have praised the Realme interface on other occasions and I will maintain my position. The icons are beautiful, the clean quick access bar wins me over and the notification area is organized. In addition to Google apps, TikTok, Messenger (from Facebook), WPS Office are pre-installed and, in my test unit, they also had other Chinese apps that, most likely, should not come in the official version for Brazil.
The software also features dark mode, screen recording, NFC for approach payments and an application clone that allows, for example, adding two WhatsApp apps on the phone. Another cool feature is the page change effects, which let you change the navigation to scroll, tilt, letter effect, among others.
The Realme 7 5G is a cell phone with large numbers, but not on the camera. The main one has 48 megapixels with f / 1.8 aperture, ultrawide has 8 megapixels with f / 2.3 aperture, still has the 2 megapixel macro (f / 2.4) and we end with a 2 megapixel depth sensor (f / 2.4). Feeling of déjà vu? Normal, this set is very similar to Realme 7 – the only difference is that the 4G variant has a 64 MP main camera.
In good lighting conditions, this camera produces photos with controlled noise, balanced coloring, as well as exposure. However, depending on the scenario, the software may unnecessarily darken the shadows too much, especially when HDR is enabled. It is not the end of the world, but it can ruin the image in more complex situations.
The depth sensor works with people, but it can show focus failures in environments with a lot of information. Night mode is available in the camera app and its use is recommended in places with low light. It even works when there is a little light in the space, but it does not work miracles in dark landscapes, the records are still noisy.
The definition of ultrawide is severely impaired even when the location is adequately lit. The darker shadows again give the faces, as well as the graininess, that are visible throughout the photograph. Nor can you count on the macro camera, which only delivers images with a clean look, no sharpness and excessive noise.
The front of the Realme 7 5G will or will not. Sometimes I even manage to take good selfies, but in many situations, the photos are bursty and colorless, even without any set mode. Beautification mode is enabled by default, but you can disable it.
Hardware and battery
In hardware, Realme swapped the MediaTek G95 for the 7 nanometer Dimensity 800U. It is octa-core up to 2.4 GHz and supports 5G technology. According to Realme, the device is compatible with the 12 main bands (n1, n3, n5, n7, n8, n20, n28, n38, n40, n41, n77, n78). In addition, with this component, the user can count on the 5G + 5G DSDS support, which makes it possible to choose which chip you want to take advantage of the 5G network.
This processor works together with 8 GB of RAM, in addition to 128 GB of storage, a partnership that makes the device run smoothly, without any glaring problems. Day-to-day applications, such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, open quickly.
Also positioning itself as a smartphone for those who play, the Mali-G57 MC3 graphics chip does not disappoint and makes the Realme 7 5G run Asphalt 9 smoothly with the graphics at a minimum. Enriching the details, the good performance remains: during the tests, I did not notice any choking that could harm the game.
Regarding the battery, we have a 5,000 mAh cell here and to power all that, a 30 watt fast charger comes with the phone. On a test day, I spent two hours on Netflix, plus two hours on YouTube, 15 minutes on Asphalt 9 and ten more minutes of social media. The battery went from 100% to 56%, a spectacular autonomy, even more considering that the phone was at maximum brightness of the screen, connected to Wi-Fi and with the update rate in variable mode.
To complete the good result, the charger steps on the accelerator and goes far. With 2% charge, the accessory made the battery reach 50% in 25 minutes and 100% appeared after 1h05min, excellent result. As the Tecnoblog received the device before launch, the company sent the type A charger, but Realme sends the version we use in Brazil normally.
Realme 7 5G: is it worth it?
Now costing R $ 2,599, the 5G variant of Realme 7 has interesting upgrades when compared to the brothers. It is also that stuffed cell phone that will suit you perfectly when the real 5G arrives in Brazil. Although it may seem like a small thing, I would not pay $ 300 more for 5G, 120 Hz and for a newer processor. It’s not that the Realme 7 5G isn’t worth it, but have you looked at the specifications of the conventional Realme 7? His Helio G95 does a good job in various activities, he has 8 GB of RAM and a refresh rate of 90 Hz.
As much as Realme and other companies try to dry resources, betting on cheaper components, 5G technology ends up making the product more expensive and, in the end, does not guarantee a fast experience now. It remains to be seen whether the consumer is willing to wait and whether he intends to browse 5G in two, three, four years with a 2021 cell phone.
Apart from this limitation, the Realme 7 5G is a complete cell phone. I don’t classify it as incredible because it lacked an AMOLED screen and a clearer update policy. In addition, it has decent performance and multitasking, the 120 Hz refresh rate is a plus, the battery is powerful and the fast charger in the box impresses, especially now with other brands removing the accessory. The Realme 7 5G is a complete smartphone that I would like to see in the year 2021, but 5G support still doesn’t excite me.
