Review Huawei Scale 3 smart scale: from enemy to ally [análise/vídeo]

If at some point in your life you said that the scale is your biggest enemy, then you can forget that idea now. THE Huawei Scale 3 it is just an example of how the equipment evolved and became a great friend of your health. The Chinese scale has the intelligence to monitor your weight, the Body Mass Index (BMI), percentage of water in the body, shows the heartbeat and works over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

Costing R $ 279, Scale 3 now rivals Xiaomi’s Mi Body Composition Scale 2, which is a little more expensive on the official website. Is it worth investing in the Huawei model? I tested the product in the last few weeks and share my experience in this brief review.

If you are used to those old scales, then you will be surprised by this model. Huawei Scale 3 has a design so elegant that the company decided to call this color “elegant white” – oh, that is the only option available. The weighing surface is made of tempered glass, which is on average five times more resistant than ordinary glass, and it has four electrodes that are arranged for the feet to be correctly positioned during the measurement.

The product is exactly 30 centimeters high and 30 cm wide, so if you have a big foot like mine, you will have no problem using Scale 3. Still on the white surface, Huawei hid an LED display, which is more a way to track your weight data in real time, in addition to the Huawei Health app. At the bottom is the battery compartment: the gadget depends on four toothpick batteries (type AAA).

Although it is identical to Noerden Minimi and Mi Body Composition Scale 2, I really liked the minimalist and sophisticated look of Huawei Scale 3. The scale is also not heavy; you can transport it to other rooms in the house without any hassle, which is great since other people in your family can use the product normally.

Reading and application

In addition to weight, the smart scale can provide 10 other body indicators: heart rate, BMI, fat-free mass, body fat percentage, skeletal muscle mass, protein, bone mineral content, visceral fat level, basal metabolic rate and percentage of body water. All of this information, however, is not shown on the Scale 3 display. Yes, it means that the device is 100% dependent on Huawei Health.

When you get on the scale, it automatically starts measuring your weight and shows the result in a few seconds. Soon after, the device recharges to pick up your heartbeat. Compared to Mi Band 5, Scale 3 had similar BPM numbers, with few differences. Therefore, if you already have a smartwatch or smartband, it is worth using the gadget to compare the data.

My Body Mass Index (BMI) calculated by the Huawei scale was 21.1, classified as “healthy” by the device. Compared with tables of specialized organs, the balance was showing correct information. This shows that my weight is ok. The body fat rate was registered at 19.8%, considered “normal” for my age.

In summary, Scale 3 presented numbers that were in line with my profile. The most interesting thing is that the results appear with an explanation of each indicator, helping to understand what the scale is showing. It is a positive aspect of the Huawei app that I have praised in the past, with the Watch GT 2e watch, for bringing accurate and detailed information. It is important to note that the communication between app and scale can be done via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi in the 2.4 GHz frequency.

Still on Huawei Health, in a few minutes all the data collected will be available after the measurement. He also shares recommendations for you to reach your ideal weight: the app shows your first weight; the goal by which you must achieve; and how many calories you need to lose.

The other good news is that the product is not limited to just one person. That is, other members of your family can use Scale 3 normally and have access to all data. In my house, where three people live, it was possible to use the device with everyone, without mixing the information. For this, Huawei has a technology that can detect the person and leaves everything saved separately. It is also feasible to weigh yourself through the “Guest Use” menu – which is most useful in cases where you borrow the scale.

The negative point of the app, on the other hand, is the “Help” menu that has not been translated and is in English. As a result, more lay consumers may not be able to configure and understand some useful information. I hope Huawei will resolve this in a brief update.

Huawei Scale 3: is it worth it?

With good features, beautiful design and decent app, Huawei Scale 3 is a great option for smart scales. My usage experience was very positive, especially now that I started to take better care of my physical condition and, therefore, I need to monitor my progress. The profusion of data is really the strong point here and explaining to the consumer what each data means is one more thing that I need to highlight.

In addition, if you have other branded devices, such as a smartwatch, all your health information is concentrated in one place: in the Huawei Health app, which makes analysis even easier. Despite this, I would very much like to see all the numbers on the Scale 3 display, as well as the Tanita RD-901 scale, and use the app just to keep everything registered for future analysis.

It is also worth analyzing the Xiaomi device that is more affordable in retail and brings many features, as well as the Scale 3. For those who already use smartwatch on a daily basis to monitor health, a smart scale can be a good addition to this routine. And Huawei Scale 3 proves to be an excellent companion in this regard.
