Oppo renewed on April 13, 2021 its A range with four new models. Three of them are 5G: A94 5G, A74 5G and A54 5G. Large screens, large battery, quadruple photo sensor with main module at 48 megapixels, these phones are sold between 260 and 360 euros. They are accompanied by a fourth 4G model, the A74, which is priced below 200 euros.
Oppo France organized an information meeting this morning to present the new models of its A range. As a reminder, the A range is Oppo’s entry level in France. These are the phones that will come compete with Redmi and Realme, for example, by playing strongly on affordability, autonomy and, to a certain extent, value for money. You can find in our columns the test of the Oppo A9 (2020) carried out a year ago.

The harvest at the start of 2021 is made up of four models. Three of them are 5G, the latter being 4G only. These are the first three on which Oppo will focus its communication for this launch, although the fourth is clearly not to be overlooked. 5G phones are priced between 260 and 360 euros, while the 4G model will be offered below the 200 euros mark. Something tells us that maybe it will be the 4G model that will be the right deal to follow. Find in the last part of this article the presentation and our opinion about it.
But let’s start with the 5G models first. They are named A94 5G, A74 5G and A54 5G. Their names emerged two and a half months ago when prices for Oppo’s Find X3 series in Europe leaked. Their arrival is therefore no surprise. Some models were presented in China last month. So we already had a lot of information about them, even though we were missing the price, configuration and release date. Now we know everything.
Oppo A94 5G: the replacement for the Reno4 z 5G
Let’s start with the A94 5G, which wants to be the junction between the A range and the Reno range. And, more specifically, we see the A94 5G as the replacement for the Reno4 z 5G that we presented to you last October. Remember also that the Find X3 Lite and the Find X3 Neo belong to the Reno range in China. So much so that you have the A94 5G, Find X3 Lite, and Find X3 Neo to represent Oppo on the mid-range in 2020.
The A94 5G benefits from an astonishing spec sheet, but one that may turn off more than one. Why ? Because the SoC is a MediaTek. And more precisely of Dimensity 800U, an octo-core engraved at 8 nm, the rate of the two most powerful cores of which is set at 2.24 GHz. The component is associated with 8 GB RAM, 128 GB of storage and a battery of 4500 mAh compatible 30 watt VOOC fast charge.
The screen measures 6.43 inch. It is Super AMOLED and Full HD +. It supports the 60 Hz only. On the photo side, we find four sensors at the back: a main module of 48 megapixels, one 8-megapixel wide-angle module and two 2-megapixel modules for macro and portrait mode assist. At the front we find a selfie sensor of 16 megapixels placed in a punch. So these are the main elements of this A94 5G which will cost 360 euros (within a few cents). Scheduled for release April 22, along with all other phones featured here.
Oppo A74 5G and A54 5G: two almost Siamese smartphones
Let’s move on to the Oppo A74 5G and the A54 5G. The two phones are very close to each other, with the difference between RAM, storage and load power. The A74 5G takes advantage of 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, while the A54 5G only has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The A74 G5 is compatible with 18 watt fast charging, while the A54 5G is only compatible with a 10 watt charge (for a charging time that reaches 3.5 hours anyway …).
Let’s move on to the commonalities. They both rely on the Snapdragon 480, Qualcomm’s first entry-level 5G compatible SoC. Their screen measures 6.5 inches. It is IPS LCD and displays images in Full HD. The battery has a capacity of 5000 mAh, for an autonomy which should largely exceed the day and a half. In photography you find equipment similar to that of the A94 5G: 48 + 8 + 2 + 2 megapixels at the rear and 16 megapixels at the front. Their price is 269 euros for the A54 5G and 300 euros for the A74 5G.
Oppo A74: a 5G proposal that does not lack interest
Let’s finish with the compatible model only 4G. It’s called Oppo A74. It is sold for 199.90 euros exactly. And it incorporates a very correct platform and very interesting finery. First we have a screen AMOLED of 6.43 inch (slightly smaller than that of the A74 5G). Under the screen hides a Snapdragon 662, a 2 GHz octa-core chipset which should offer similar performance to the Snapdragon 480.
He takes advantage of 6 GB RAM and 128 GB of storage. Its battery offers a capacity of 5000 mAh fast charge compatible 33 watts. Its photo module includes 3 sensors of 48, 8 and 2 megapixels (main, ultra wide-angle and macro). And its selfie sensor offers a definition of 16 megapixels. It’s a smartphone that is not uninteresting, quite the contrary. It could even surprise the Redmi Note 10, for example.
