Oi Fibra arrives in São Paulo with 500 Mb / s internet and promotional HBO Go | Telecommunications

The state of São Paulo has always been marked by the absence of Oi’s residential services, but that has changed: the internet Hi Fiber starts to be commercialized in neighborhoods of the São Paulo capital from this Wednesday (28). The operator will sell a broadband plan with a speed of 500 Mb / s with free HBO for 6 months. Tele will also have pay TV via IPTV and landline, but it does not disclose which neighborhoods were served at the launch.

For its arrival in São Paulo, Oi will use the strategy of reusing existing optical fibers in the city. From this access network, the operator built the last mile capacity with GPON technology, with the possibility of upgrading to XGSPON, which allows symmetrical speeds of up to 10 Gb / s.

Oi Fibra’s plans in SP

For now, Oi arrives in São Paulo with only broadband internet speed option. See plans for home users:

Broadband and landline

Internet Included services Monthly price
500 Mb / s download
250 Mb / s upload
VoIP landline with unlimited calls
Oi Play with Oi Collection
HBO Go (only for 6 months)
$ 129.99 in automatic debit
Regular price $ 149.99

São Paulo’s plans are different from other locations: in the main capitals, Oi sells 200 Mb / s internet for R $ 99.90 per month or 400 Mb / s at a cost of R $ 149.90 per month. In selected municipalities, Oi sells 100 Mb / s for R $ 79.90 per month and 500 Mb / s for R $ 99.90 per month.

Another important detail is that the new 1 Gb / s plan will not be available at Oi Fibra in São Paulo, but does not rule out the launch in the future. The operator understands that the speed of 500 Mb / s is competitive, and opted for a simplified offer.

In addition to the fixed broadband plan, Oi will sell a combo with IPTV by subscription:

Oi confirmed that customers with HBO Go will be upgraded to HBO Max – the new service should arrive in June with Friends, game of Thrones and original content.

Oi Fibra’s strategy and coverage in São Paulo

O Tecnoblog asked which are the neighborhoods and regions with broadband coverage by fiber at the launch, but Oi disagreed – at the end of the conference, the vice president of customers, Bernardo Winick, anticipated an apology for possible customers who do not find availability. Consultations can be made from tomorrow (28), on the operator’s website – it is necessary to inform the zip code and the household number.

The vice president of operations, José Cláudio Gonçalves, commented on the reuse strategy and states that Oi already has an “interesting” optical network in different areas of the São Paulo capital. Tele promises that its network will cover 400 thousand households by the end of 2021, and in 2022 it will reach the mark of 2 million houses able to contract Oi Fibra.

As for the company’s expectations, Winick states that Oi Fibra’s customers in São Paulo should not have a large share of the 2021 finances, especially considering the competitiveness that already exists in the municipality and the restricted coverage at launch. However, the company aims at a network occupancy rate similar to the rest of the country, which is around 25% of all houses suitable for contracting.

Oi also confirms that the service will not be restricted to the capital of São Paulo, and Oi Fibra is expected to arrive in other municipalities in São Paulo in the future. The company claims to have 4,300 km of optical network throughout the state, which serves corporate customers and cellular antennas.
