Launched on November 18, 2012, the Nintendo Wii U was the successor to the very popular Wii. Unfortunately, it ended up not achieving the same critical and public success, being considered one of Big N’s biggest failures. Even so, its library offered many interesting titles. The GamePad

The big innovation seen on the Wii U was its touchscreen controller called the GamePad. It serves as a second screen for many games. Its features range from an easily accessible map to frequent inventory handling, these features differ from game to game. The accessory has a built-in microphone and camera, having different uses in titles and services.

On the other hand, there are games that barely use these features. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze it simply turns off the screen during gameplay, for example. Either way, it feels like playing on a desktop Nintendo 3DS. A lot of innovation came from there.

Wii Remotes can still be used in some games on the system, but many call for the Wii Motion Plus technology that was born near the end of the Nintendo Wii’s life.

Nintendo may have gotten into high definition imaging technology late, but the Wii U has finally brought 1080p (Full HD) to the home of Mario and company. As a result, cleaner and more detailed graphics could be enjoyed for the first time on a Big N console.


Born on Wii U as an exclusive social network for console users, Miiverse has brought together thousands of people to talk about the games and features of the system. There were channels about the titles to exchange information and tips, in addition to giving opinions about their qualities.

Stamp-like seals could be obtained in certain games to be used in posts, further increasing interactivity among fans. Later, the service was released for the 3DS, but on November 8, 2017 it was shut down by Nintendo.

With an exhilarating soundtrack, this is one of those Wii U games that holds the player through their entire trajectory. So, a great adventure to get to know.

3. Nintendo Land

Tracking most Wii U consoles since their release, Nintendo Land is a collection of small themed Big N games. The idea is to place the player inside a park where it is possible to walk and play in each of the attractions.

There are multiplayer games like the game-based tag. Mario Bros.. or the space battles with the face of the franchise metroid, for example. On the other hand, there are options for single player like the adventure of The Legend of Zelda or the quasi-puzzle based on Donkey Kong. Either way, it worked well as a preview of the functionality of the Wii U’s two screens.

4. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD

One of Link’s greatest adventures, this remaster of the GameCube masterpiece has improved everything possible, delivering one of the 10 best-selling Wii U games of all time. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD puts the protagonist on a journey across the seas to save his sister, passing through different islands with many curious characters.

There are many surprises along the way, making it a great choice for longtime fans of the franchise.

5. Super Mario 3D World

Playing with Mario and the gang is always fun, but playing with four players simultaneously is when the party becomes insanity. In Super Mario 3D World, the mustached plumber, his brother in the green hat, Princess Peach and a Toad venture into the Sprixie Kingdom. There, the heroes want to stop the villain Bowser from using the power of this realm’s fairies for evil.

The game was made for up to four people to have fun in the stages, competing to see who can score the most points. Something rarely seen in games for the Wii U.

6. Splatoon

Nobody expected Nintendo to release a game within the team shooter genre, but they did it in style with splatoon. In this title, the focus is not on killing the opposing players, but on painting the scenario with your team’s colors.

Alongside the fun gameplay there is a soundtrack that became a hit in Japan. All this style transformed splatoon in a hit game, putting it side by side with other Big N franchises.

7. ZombiU

A bet by Ubisoft on the launch of Wii U. zombie it uses all the functionality of the console very well, from the camera on the GamePad to the touch screen to manage the inventory. This first-person survival game in zombie-infested England can be terrifying and quite tense.

Plus, its permanent kill system makes it one of the most challenging Wii U games ever released. If you like horror and zombies, then ZombiU is an excellent choice.

8. Mario Kart 8

To date the best-selling Nintendo Wii U game, Mario Kart 8 achieved the feat of being in the home of almost 50% of the console’s owners. In addition to being the first in the series with HD graphics, the piece also featured two exciting expansions featuring characters from The Legend of Zelda and Animal Crossing to the slopes.
