Netflix: 10 most-watched original movies of all time

Launched in 1997 as a movie rental company, Netflix began its journey to stardom in 2007, when it launched the streaming platform. Today, it has more than 200 million subscriptions around the world and a full catalog of successful series and movies.

Among the available productions are the original Netflix content. The feature films and series commissioned by the streaming platform itself are some of the biggest hits among users.

With that in mind, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos released a list of the 10 most viewed original movies from the streaming platform based on hours watched. The ranking was announced at Vox Media’s Code Conference, which took place on Monday (27).

This comedy starring Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler has had 170 million hours watched since it was released.

In the film, a New York City police officer, who has owed his wife a vacation for years, is invited to spend time on billionaire Malcolm Quince’s exclusive yacht. After the mysterious murder of the old billionaire, the two become the main suspects in the crime and the vacation turns into a long escape from the French police.

9. The Old Guard

With 182 million hours watched, the film starring Charlize Theron is one of the most watched on the streaming platform.

The Old Guard tells the story of a secret group of mercenaries with a mysterious inability to die. They had fought to protect the mortal world for centuries, all without being discovered. When their secret is leaked, the group needs to stop bad people from replicating and monetizing their power.

8. Army of the Dead: Invasion of Las Vegas

Directed by Zack Snyder, the feature film had 187 million hours watched. Army of the Dead follows a group of mercenaries who, after an outbreak of zombies in Las Vegas, decide to venture into a quarantine zone to try to carry out the biggest robbery of all time.

7. Enola Holmes

With 190 million hours watched, Enola Holmes follows Enola, who, after her mother’s disappearance, is under the tutelage of the brothers Sherlock and Mycroft. After they try to send her to boarding school, the young woman decides to run away from home and go after her mother, following clues left by matriarch Holmes.

The production’s cast includes big names such as Millie Bobby Brown, Helena Bonham Carter, Henry Cavill and Sam Claflin

6. Double change

With a mix of action and comedy, Double change had 197 million hours watched. The film starring Mark Wahlberg tells the story of Spenser, a former police officer who causes more problems than he can solve. After his former FBI teammates are murdered, he assembles an unconventional team to investigate the crime.

With 205 million hours watched, Squad 6 is the story of a group of unconventional heroes led by One, played by Ryan Reynolds. The leader’s mission in life is simple: to ensure that, although he and his teammates are never remembered, their actions remain forever in people’s memories.

4. The Kiss Booth 2

the franchise of The Kiss Booth is one of Netflix’s big teen hits. With 209 million hours watched, the second movie is the fourth most watched on the streaming platform. The synopsis says: Now that Noah has gone to Harvard, Elle and her boyfriend are having to deal with the difficulties of a long-distance relationship.

With a duration of 3 hours and 29 minutes, the irish opens the podium of the list, with the history of organized crime in postwar America told through the eyes of Frank Sheeran, a con man, murderer and World War II veteran who worked alongside some of the most notorious figures of the 20th century.

Starring Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci, the film had ten Oscar nominations and 215 million hours watched.

2. Rescue

231 million hours watched of Rescue earned the film starring Chris Hemsworth second on the list. The action-packed feature film follows a fearless mercenary and the almost impossible mission to rescue the son of one of the great names of international crime.

With 282 million hours watched, Bird Box is Netflix’s most-watched original feature film of all time when it comes to screen time. In the cast, big names like Sandra Bullock, Sarah Paulson and John Malkovich.

Inspired by Josh Malerman’s book of the same name, the post-apocalyptic film tells the journey of the survivor and her two children in search of a safe haven. The obstacle: the journey has to be done blindfolded. That’s because, when seen, mysterious creatures bring out the worst in humans.
