Motorola Edge and Edge + arrive in Brazil with 5G and price of up to R $ 7,999 | Cell phone

THE Motorola announced on Thursday (2) the Edge +, a high-end mobile phone with Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor, 6.7-inch screen with curved sides and, for the first time in the country, compatibility with 5G. The smartphone arrives in Brazil for R $ 7,999 along with the Motorola Edge, a simpler version that also supports the next generation of mobile networks.

THE Edge + marks Motorola’s return to the high-end segment (or “super premium”, as the company says). It brings the best Qualcomm processor and huge numbers, like 12 GB of RAM, 256 GB of storage, 5,000 mAh battery and 108 megapixel main camera, charging a lot for it – it’s the same launch price as the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra .

The debut of 5G in the country is still far away, but Motorola highlights the compatibility with the new networks in a press release. Motorola product manager Thiago Masuchette explains to the Tecnoblog that the device has a Snapdragon X55 modem and supports 5G on sub-6 frequencies, such as the 3,500 MHz provided for in Anatel’s auction, but not millimeter waves (mmWave); they are exclusive to a version of the operator Verizon, which will not be sold in Brazil.

The Edge + screen has 6.7 inches, OLED panel, Full HD + resolution, HDR10 + compatibility, 90 Hz refresh rate and fingerprint reader. The sides have a pronounced curvature of 90 degrees, reminiscent of the Huawei Mate 30 Pro. The sides house a tray of shortcuts for applications and can light up when the phone is with the screen down, to alert you about notifications and incoming calls.

The front camera is 25 megapixels and sits in a hole in the upper left corner, while the rear houses three cameras: a main 108 megapixel lens with an aperture of f / 1.8, an ultrawide and macro of 16 megapixels (f / 2 , 2) and an 8 megapixel (f / 2.4) telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and optical image stabilization. It is possible to shoot at 6K at 30 fps.

The 5,000 mAh battery supports 18-watt TurboPower charging with the adapter included in the box and, according to Motorola, can hold up to two days away from the outlet. For the first time in a long time, since the Moto Maxx, the company is launching a cell phone with wireless charging – including reverse, with the possibility of supplying other devices compatible with Qi at 5 watts.

Motorola also highlights the stereo speakers, which are the “most powerful and highest volume ever seen on a smartphone”, in the manufacturer’s words, in addition to compatibility with Wi-Fi 6.

Differences from other expensive phones call my attention: it still has a standard 3.5 mm headphone jack (yay!), It has no IP certification for water protection (boo!) And does not film at 8K, although Qualcomm’s processor has that capability. Another strange limitation is that even the 4K recording is limited to 30 fps, not reaching the competitors’ 60 fps.

The Motorola Edge + arrives in Brazil in the color Thunder Gray (a very beautiful bluish gray) with a suggested price of R $ 7,999. The pre-sale starts this Thursday (2) and buyers will receive the product from July 14th.

Motorola Edge

There is also a less expensive version of Edge +, which retains much of the features of the big brother, but with low performance. THE Motorola Edge also has a curved OLED screen of 6.7 inches and 90 Hz, the stereo speakers from Waves Audio and compatibility with 5G sub-6, but brings a simpler processor, the Snapdragon 765.

The Edge that will be sold in Brazil has 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. The front and rear cameras are basically the same, with the exception of the main one, whose resolution drops from 108 to 64 megapixels. As a result, video recording is also limited to 4K, instead of the more expensive brother’s 6K. The battery is 4,500 mAh and supports only wired charging, also with a promise of two days of autonomy.

With simpler hardware, the Edge will be sold in black and red for R $ 5,499. It will also be available in pre-order between the 2nd and the 13th of July, and the first buyers of any model will receive a Bluetooth headset (Motorola Vervebuds 100) as a gift.
