There are a number of reports on Twitter and Complain Here saying that Paid Market and Nubank registered Pix keys without customers’ permission. The two fintechs lead the number of registrations in the instant payment system. To Tecnoblog, they deny the accusations, but the Central Bank warns: it is inspecting the payment system and will punish offenders.
The client Christian Lima has a Twitter account: “I went to register Pix using the CPF at Itaú and received the notification that it was already being used at another bank! I later found out that Mercado Pago had registered my CPF without my authorization ”.
Leandro Avelar says on the social network: “without me authorizing Mercado Pago, I associated my CPF with their Pix account. Every time I entered Mercado Pago, there was a pre-registration screen and I denied them all ”.
“Mercado Pago registered my CPF as a Pix key without me asking,” reports user Vitor de Lucca. “I have since been trying to exclude, without success. It gives error. I asked for portability by Inter, which informs me that I need to accept portability in Mercado Pago … There just isn’t that in the app. ”
In Reclame Aqui, the complaints are similar: customers are unable to exclude the CPF as Pix key from Mercado Pago, even if they ask for portability to another financial institution.
And there are similar complaints about Nubank: “my CPF was registered as a Pix key with you without my order and my authorization”, explains customer Fabio Leme on Twitter.
“Nubank is registering my Pix keys without asking,” says Ariel Marlin on the social network. Another report says: “I barely did the math and she took all my Pix keys and tried to port them without my consent”.
What Nubank and Mercado Pago say
In a statement to the Tecnoblog, Nubank denies the accusations: “all keys have been registered with the proper authorization from customers”. Fintech continues: “We carefully prepared a practical and simple communication flow and, on 10/05, we sent a request for consent via the application to all customers who had pre-registered”.
Mercado Pago also denies having registered keys without permission. The company says in a statement that “the Pix key registration process took place in accordance with the rules established by the Central Bank and will provide all necessary clarifications to the regulator and its customers”.
Fintech guarantees that it does not register Pix keys without the user’s consent: “the registration flow involves sending a communication through the Mercado Pago application informing the possibility of registering the email keys, CPF / CNPJ, so that the user can choose which one he wants to register ”.
Central Bank “will punish offenders”
In a note, the BC states that it “continuously monitors and supervises the Pix key registration process”, and that it has already started formal processes to inspect participants.
“If it detects irregularities in these processes, including any improper registration, the Central Bank will punish violators under the terms of the current regulation,” says the institution.
How to remove Nubank and Mercado Pago keys
At the Nubank, do the following:
- open the app and in the Pix section, tap Register your keys;
- if that section is not present, tap the Pix button at the bottom of the screen;
- touch the three dots icon (…) next to a registered key;
- touch Delete.
It is worth noting that this option will not appear if the registration is pending. Nubank first needs to confirm registration with BC before you can delete the key.
In Claim Here, the Paid Market guides customers to follow these steps:
- open the app on iPhone or Android;
- follow the path More (in the lower right corner)> Your profile> Your Pix keys;
- choice a key and select the option Delete key.
This procedure can only be done on business days from 9am to 5pm. Mercado Pago promises that when Pix is launched in November, it will be possible to modify the keys at any time.
In addition, some users complain that this may display an error message. In this case, fintech asks customers to contact us through the Contact Us section of the application, through the mercadopago.com.br/ajuda website or by calling 0800 637 7246.
