Amazon Prime Day started this Monday (21) and continues until tomorrow (22), promising to be a great opportunity to change smartphones. Considering the past editions of the event, the online commerce giant should offer discounts as good as those seen on Black Friday, ensuring a great opportunity to change cell phones.
The question that remains is: is it worth investing in a device now, during the Amazon event, or is it better to wait for Black Friday, which takes place in the last week of November?
Check here some technical and marketing points that can be useful when deciding whether you should change your cell phone now or wait a few months to buy a new device.
2020 cell phones should receive discounts
As Prime Day rolls at the end of the 1st semester, the trend is for the best discounts to appear for smartphones launched last year. In other words, don’t expect to see big deals on Amazon with cell phones featuring the new Snapdragon 888, for example.
Amazon’s promotion could be a good opportunity to acquire interesting cell phones that hit the market at the end of last year. Chip-equipped models like the Snapdragon 865, formerly Qualcomm’s top-of-the-line, should finally receive interesting discounts.
The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE, for example, recently arrived in Brazil with the model equipped with the Qualcomm processor. Launched at the end of 2020 here from R$ 4,500, it reached its lowest price in March of this year and can currently be found from R$ 2,400, according to the price comparator Zoom. At Amazon, however, it is starting at R$ 2,800.
The Xiaomi Mi 10T is another model with last year’s top-of-the-line processor. Launched in the 3rd quarter of 2020, the cell phone cost around R$5.5 thousand and its price has fallen sharply since April. This beginning of the week, the product is at the level of R$ 2,600 on Amazon.
Check, below, other models launched in the second half of last year and a comparison between their prices on this Amazon Prime Day.
- iPhone 12: Launched at prices starting at R$8,000; currently it can be found from R$6.4 thousand;
- ROG Phone 3: Launched with prices starting at R$5.8 thousand; currently it can be found from R$ 4.8 thousand;
- Moto G 5G: Launched with prices starting at R$ 2,800; currently it can be found from R$ 2.2 thousand.
It is important to remember that these are prices on Amazon and not all models are discounted in the promotional action of the online store. Because of this, if you want to buy a model, it is essential to compare the values with other establishments.
Possible Black Friday 2021 discounts
Consumers have seen a considerable rise in the electronics market for some years now. Factors such as the devaluation of the real against the dollar, the lack of components and the hundreds of problems caused by the pandemic (such as logistics failures) made prices rise or at least remain high for a longer time. Video cards, for example, are among the items that suffer most in this regard.
Because of this scenario and the fluctuation of the market, it is difficult to predict how prices will be at the end of the year, during Black Friday. The date has already become one of the most important in Brazilian commerce, despite accusations of false promotions, which even earned the nickname “Black Fraud”.
So, to try to make a diagnosis, we took the average of how much the price of smartphones launched at the end of last year fell in the middle of 2021 to reach a possible value that the devices will cost in November. In addition to the natural drop in the value of the products, the promotional date should also offer discounts (this is the expectation).
Check out, below, an estimate of how much the devices launched this year may be costing on Black Friday.
- Motorola Moto G30: Launched for R$1.9 thousand, it can arrive on Black Friday at R$1,300;
- Motorola Moto G100: Launched for R$4 thousand, it can arrive on Black Friday at R$2.7 thousand;
- Redmi Note 10: Launched for R$2.8 thousand, it can arrive on Black Friday for R$1.9 thousand;
- Xiaomi Mi 11: Launched for R$8 thousand, it can arrive on Black Friday at R$5.5 thousand;
- Samsung Galaxy S21: Launched for R$ 6 thousand, it can reach Black Friday at R$ 4.1 thousand;
- Samsung Galaxy S21+: Launched for R$7 thousand, it can arrive on Black Friday at R$4.8 thousand.
We emphasize that the values mentioned above are just an expectation and that there is no scientific validity. So it’s best to keep up to date and always search on price history tools and keep an eye on the offers.
