The iPhone 12 Mini is Apple’s new bet for those who want advanced hardware, but don’t give up on a small iPhone that fits in your pocket. The phone has a 5.4-inch screen – considered small by current industry standards. However, is this the smallest model on sale? And historically, what is the smallest iPhone ever made by Apple? Find out in the list below.
iPhone 12 Mini has the best screen usage
Among the small iPhones, the iPhone 12 Mini unites the best of both worlds. That is, despite having the largest display among the “smallest” iPhones, it does not have the largest body dimensions.
The iPhone SE 2020 that has a smaller screen (4.7 ”) still manages to have a larger final size. This is because the iPhone SE 2020 has larger borders at the bottom and top (“chin” and “forehead”).
See the table below for the dimensions and screen size of all iPhones considered “small” (with screens smaller than the iPhone 12 Mini).

|iPhone 3G (2008)||115.5 x 62.1 x 12.3 mm||133 g||3.5 inches|
|iPhone (2007)||115 x 61 x 11.6 mm||133 g||3.5 inches|
The smallest iPhone ever launched was…
The first iPhone, from 2007. At 115 x 61 mm, the first iPhone was the model with the smallest height and width. However, it was quite thick, at 11.6 mm (is it brick that calls?) and it had a screen of only 3.5 inches.
For comparison, the iPhone 12 Mini is 7.4 mm thick and very similar in weight: 135 g, against 133 g of the old model.
What is the best small iPhone for sale in Brazil?
In addition to the newly launched iPhone 12 Mini, Apple sells the iPhone SE 2020 in its official store. Other models with a small screen, like the iPhone 8, for example, can still be found in retail (used or new) and, generally, are a good option for those looking for savings when changing the smartphone.
See which one is the best option according to your needs:
iPhone 12 Mini: maximum performance and the best cameras
Apple A14 Bionic processor manufactured at 5 nm, dual rear camera that works miracles in the dark, front camera with Portrait Mode, design inspired by the old models – but with new colors and the best use of the screen -, display with OLED technology, and compatibility with 5G networks. This is the iPhone 12 Mini.
But so many benefits are expensive: the main disadvantage of the iPhone 12 Mini in Brazil is the price – starting at R $ 6,999, for the 64 GB version. The second disadvantage is that you will probably have to pay more than that, since the smartphone comes without a charger and headset in the box.
For those who can afford it, this is the best small iPhone available, with the same chip present in the Pro and Pro Max models of the line.
iPhone SE 2020 or iPhone 8: same size, different performance
The iPhone SE 2020 has the “little body” of the iPhone 8, and that includes the Home button with Touch ID. Both have the same dimensions: 138.4 x 67.3 x 7.3 mm, in addition to a weight of 148 grams and a 4.7-inch Retina HD screen. In addition, both models are resistant to water and dust (IP67).
The difference is internal: the iPhone SE 2020 has the Apple A13 Bionic processor (7 nm), the same chip present in the iPhone 11. Therefore, it promises greater energy efficiency and better performance in demanding tasks than the iPhone 8, of 2017, which has the A11 Bionic, manufactured at 10 nm.
In addition, the latest model should do better in photos due to the post-processing carried out by the new chip, including Advanced Portrait Mode, with depth control.

iPhone 7 still worth it?
If you need to save even more, found a super promotion for the iPhone 7 and want to know if it’s still worth using the model, the answer is: it depends much.
The iPhone 7 is a small iPhone option to be considered by those who have a very old cell phone, which no longer updates, or those who have never used an Apple smartphone and would like to pay the lowest possible price to try it out. Launched in 2016, this was the first Apple model to come without a 3.5mm headphone jack and brought improvements to the cameras (just one in the front and one in the back) over the previous generation. Of course, since then, a lot of water has passed under this bridge …
It still had a 32 GB version of storage – but you must get away from it. A point of attention is the battery: with a capacity of 1,960 mAh and an old processor (A10 Fusion, 16 nm), the iPhone 7 can leave you hanging long before the end of the day.
What about the older small iPhones?
Although Apple still supplies iOS 14 for the iPhone 6s, the model is little recommended for anyone looking to purchase a new smartphone today. Launched in 2015, it is on the verge of receiving system updates – most likely it will not feature a new version.
The iPhone SE 2016 is another small iPhone that also has the latest version of the system, but is at risk of running out of iOS 15 next year, since the company launched a new “SE” version in 2020. In addition, with a 4-inch screen, this phone may not deliver the best experience when playing movies, series and other audiovisual content.
Previous models are also not suitable for those looking for a small iPhone today, since in addition to outdated hardware, they are also no longer updated by the manufacturer, thus being exposed to flaws and susceptible to incompatibility with apps and new features.
