Apple is preparing for the launch of the iPhone 12 – which should happen during an event scheduled for October 13, 2020. But the announcement should not bring many surprises: the company’s next generation of smartphones has been the target of several leaks to over the last year, with photos, technical data and resources published on the web and social networks.
To find out everything you can expect about the new iPhone and its possible variants “Mini”, “Pro” and “Pro Max”, follow our complete summary in the next lines.
iPhone 12 can come in four variants: conventional, Mini, Pro and Pro Max
Unlike the iPhone 11, which had the conventional model (without a last name) and two more versions, “Pro” and “Pro Max”, the new iPhone may bring one more variant, the iPhone 12 Mini.
The smaller version would have a 5.4 inch screen – still reasonably large compared to the iPhone SE 2, which has 4.7 ”, but a refreshment for those with small hands and who have difficulty with very large screens.
The iPhone 12 would maintain 6.1 inches, as well as the “Pro” 5.8 inches. The iPhone 12 Pro Max, on the other hand, would have an even bigger screen than its predecessor, with 6.7 inches instead of 6.5 ”.
Screen and design – no big news
Continuing on the screen, many fans may be disappointed by the lack of news in this regard. Until the middle of this year, it was believed that the iPhone Pro Max could have a display with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, for greater graphic fluidity, but more recent rumors indicate that the feature should stay for 2021.
Thus, Apple lags behind manufacturers like Samsung, Motorola and Xiaomi, which already have models with 120 and 90 Hz screens.
Not to say that we will not have any changes in this regard, there is still the possibility that Apple will decrease the size of the notch with the launch of the iPhone 12, but nothing very significant to the point of transforming it into a small circle or “drop”, as we see on competing phones.
The design should bring some differences, in a more retro style. The new iPhone 12 can be inspired by the look of old iPhones, like the iPhone 4 and iPhone 5, which had flat metal frames.
We probably had a “taste” of what’s to come also in terms of colors with the announcement of the iPad Air in September. Colorful pastel tones should hit the new iPhones – even Google has bet on similar colors for its launches this year.
At the rear, the square frame for the cameras should remain, similar to what is already seen in the iPhone 11 line. The company must also maintain protection against water and dust, and the Lightning port (don’t expect a USB-C port yet) .
Cables may gain reinforcement with iPhone 12 launch
IPhone users know how fragile Apple cables are – and how expensive they are, in case you have to replace. Apparently, the company heard the complaints made in recent years and intends to ship the new iPhones with more resistant cables, made of braided fabric.
Since not everything is flowers, there are strong indications that Apple will not send the font for loading in the box, as was usual. In that case you could use the new cable on an old source (if you have one with USB-C input), or you should buy a new one. If you are the most careful, you can use the cable on your previous iPhone until it asks for mercy.
Another item that should no longer accompany the iPhone 12 case is the EarPods headphones. The expectation is that Apple will offer some kind of promotion if the consumer chooses to buy the AirPods along with the new iPhones.
Apple A14 chip should bring performance improvement
The processor in the iPhone 12 line must be the Apple A14 Bionic, the same chip used in the iPad Air. The component is manufactured in a 5 nanometer process and estimates are that it can be 16% faster than the iPhone’s A13 Bionic 11, in addition to providing 8.3% higher graphics performance.
The processor has undergone benchmark tests in the past few days and provided results above the A13 Bionic, but lower than the Apple A12Z on the iPad Pro in the multi-core aspect.
In storage, the iPhones 12 Mini and iPhone 12 must have versions of 64 GB, 128 GB or 256 GB. The Pro and Pro Max models, on the other hand, would bring the most basic option with 128 GB, in addition to two other internal memory options with 256 GB and 512 GB.
Dual or triple camera, depending on version
There is not much information leaked about the cameras of the next iPhones, but they can come in a double set on the back of the iPhone 12 Mini and the conventional iPhone 12, or triple on the iPhones 12 Pro and Pro Max. The latter would also have a LIDAR sensor for 3D proficiency mapping, which would make them more apt for tasks with augmented reality.
There are also indications that the iPhone 12 Pro Max would have a new form of image stabilization – the sensor shift would be responsible for slightly displacing the sensor during an unwanted movement, which would further reduce the risk of blurred photos.
IPhone 12 spec sheet should include 5G support and cheaper battery
All iPhone models launched in October 2020 are expected to be compatible with 5G networks in sub-6 Hz bands. However, only the iPhone 12 Pro Max would have mmWave (millimeter wave) connectivity to deliver speeds above 1 Gb /s.
And speaking of 5G, some rumors indicate that it is because of him that Apple should bet on cheaper batteries with the launch of the iPhone 12. The capacities would be:
- iPhone 12 Mini: 2,227 mAh
- iPhone 12: 2,775 mAh
- iPhone 12 Pro: 2,815 mAh
- iPhone 12 Pro Max: 3,687 mAh
It is not yet known whether there would be an impact on the estimated battery life, as the energy efficiency of the A14 Bionic could help insure a possible drop.
IPhone 12 price and release date
So far, official prices for the next generation of iPhones have not been revealed, but there are estimates. The price of the iPhone 12 should start at US $ 749. The Mini version should be the cheapest, with values starting at US $ 649. The iPhone 12 Pro would start at US $ 999 and the Pro Max from US $ 1,099.
The launch of the iPhone 12 should take place on October 13, 2020, in a live stream (on YouTube and on the Apple website). The event is scheduled to start at 14h (Brasília time), and you can follow the full coverage here on Tecnoblog.
