Crash Bandicoot 4 enough to please fans of classic games and new players. The new game maintains the formula of the first three games in the series, seen recently in the collection / remake, “Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy”. However, it brought news such as: new characters, time control and even a curious competitive mode. In this guide we will see how to play Crash Bandicoot 4 and its main gameplay news.
How to Play Crash Bandicoot 4
The game kept a good part of its original characteristics, so jumps, spins, running, everything still works as in classic games, but I will explain the new aspects of the game so that you can understand how the game works.
What is Crash Bandicoot 4
Crash Bandicoot 4 was released by Activision in October 2020 for Playstation 4 and Xbox One. The game developed by Toys for Bob, it is a direct sequel to Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped. We see this in the first scene of the game that shows Dr. Neo Cortex and the other villains trapped in another dimension.
After getting away, the villains get the ability to travel through time, through cracks in the universe, this also takes us to the main mechanics of the game.
Crash kept its main gameplay characteristics, but we have two new features here. The inclusion of a double jump, which helps to correct not so well calculated jumps and the inclusion of a reticle, which is underneath the character to give a better idea of where he will fall after the jumps. It is simple but functional.
One of the main changes in the game is a mix of gameplay elements on the same level. While in the old games, each level had a specific theme, such as: “The 2D phase”, “The escape phase”, in Crash Bandicoot 4 the phases mix different different gameplay experiences.
The biggest news of the game are the quantum masks that allow Crash and Coco to use different skills in parts of the levels. These masks guarantee the characters a new range of temporary skills such as: materializing or erasing objects, increasing the range of movements, slowing down time and even changing gravity.
During the game, in addition to Crash and Coco, it will be possible to play with Dr. Neo Cortex, Dingodile and Tawna as you progress through the adventure.
Retro style vs. current style
The game allows you to choose two ways to play:
Modern Style: Here, the player dies and returns from the last checkpoint, as in most current games and there is no life count.
Retro Style: As in old games, lives are limited and after they are over, you must start the level again.
To make these changes, just go to the “gameplay options” menu and choose between retro or modern. You can make these changes at any time.
Regardless of which mode you choose, this will not influence the game’s rewards, so you can play it cool.
Play with friends in a different multiplayer
Although the game is for one player, it is possible to play with up to 4 friends. Just enable the “Pass N Play” mode. That way up to 4 people can play a level. This mode works as a score dispute between the checkpoints during the phases.
Upon arrival at a checkpoint or the death of one of the players, control must be taken over by another player. In the end, the individual score is counted to see who was better.
There is also the mode called “Battle Bandicoot”, in which players can compete in a race on different maps. The questions used to define the winner are: the time spent between one checkpoint and another, the number of times he died and how many boxes he destroyed at each checkpoint.
Diamonds and extra clothes
Crash has always conditioned players to destroy all the boxes in the levels to unlock secret diamonds, which often allowed you to hit extra areas in the levels. In Crash Bandicoot 4 this remains true, with the addition of being able to release clothes and skins for Crash and Coco depending on the number of boxes you destroy and fruits you pick up along the way.
The game has some phases that resemble old platform games from the 90s. When taking the Flashback Tapes, we assumed Crash and Coco, still in their guinea pig days in Dr. Neo Cortex’s laboratories. These phases have an old visual filter, are well focused on platforms and very challenging. In these stages, abuse the double jump to correct leaps that are not calculated correctly.
Crash Bandicoot 4 in Portuguese
The game has subtitles and voiceovers in Brazilian Portuguese, but stay tuned, because to play in our language you need to adjust the default language of your console to Brazilian Portuguese, since it is not possible to make this change in the game’s menus.
Color blindness options
The game has an interesting option for color-blind people and allows you to use filters that make the visuals more pleasant.
To adjust these options, just go to: “Video Options” and select “Color blindness options”
Crash Bandicoot 4, maintains the formula, implements new features, but remains very challenging. I hope the tips help your setting process and facilitate the evolution in the game.
