A SIM card or Subscriber Identity Module is one of the media that can be used to move various kinds of data, from old cell phone contacts to new phones.
A SIM card is an important card in the world of telecommunications. Every mobile device, including a smartphone, needs this card so that it can be used to communicate with other devices or to be able to connect to the internet.
This card is similar to an identity card, which contains various important information such as Integrated Circuit Card ID (ICCID), International Mobile Subscriber Identity (IMSI), Authentication Key, Local Area Identity (LAI), an operator emergency call numbers.
But besides that, in this tiny card, there is also a database that can be used to store telephone number data. Because of this, this card can be a solution to move data when we are switching to a new smartphone.
How to Move Contacts from Phone to SIM Card
In general, users can move contacts from the phone to the SIM card by using the Export menu in the Contacts application. This option can be found on the Other menu (the colon or hamburger icon) or in the Settings menu.
But because each device has different option placements, we cannot explain in detail one by one. For example, we use Samsung devices to do this.
On the Samsung device, you can find the Export option by tapping the Other option (the colon icon) in the top right corner, then selecting Manage contacts. Then, from the Manage contact page, then select Import / Export contacts.
To move the data, press the EXPORT button and select the SIM option used for the new data storage location. Next, select the contact you want to export and press DONEif it’s finished. Finally, you only need to press the EXPORT button again.
Important note, this method can only be used on devices based on the Android operating system. For the iOS system, Apple basically does not provide storage options to the SIM card, and as a solution, you can use cloud services.
How to Move Contacts from a SIM Card to an Android-based Phone
Contrary to the method above, users can use the Import menu to move data from the SIM card to an Android phone. To find this option, it is usually located close to the Export menu as described earlier.
On Samsung devices, for example, this menu becomes part of the Import / Export contacts page. And to use it, you only need to press the IMPORT button, then choose SIM on FROM, then choose the contact you want to move.
Next, if you have finished selecting a contact or you can press the circle in the top left corner to select everything, press the DONE button. In the TO option, then Phone, then press the IMPORT button to move it.
