Linking your smartphone to your computer can be very useful in everyday life, as it makes it easier to access notifications and open important apps when you don’t have your cell phone at your side. Thinking about creating this bridge, Microsoft developed the Link to Mobile, an app that allows Android users to connect their devices to the PC.
The tool is available on Windows 10 and Windows 11. If you don’t know the function, check the tutorial below on how to configure it and use it to connect the cell phone on the computer without the need for wires.
1. Check the basic requirements for installation
To be able to link your smartphone to the computer, both devices must meet the basic requirements required by Microsoft. While desktops or notebooks need to run the Windows versions 10 or 11cell phones must be up to date at least with the Android 7.0 (Nougat).
In addition, it is also necessary that both devices are connected to the same WI-FI network, and it is not possible, for example, to use the network cable on the computer and 4G on the cell phone.
2. Download the apps
After checking the basic requirements, it’s time to download and install the software on your devices. Starting with your cell phone, go to Google Play and search for “Link to Windows”. If you prefer, you can also be redirected by clicking here.
Once you are in the app store, click “Install” and wait for the app to download. Soon after, on your computer, go to the Microsoft Store and download the “Link to Mobile” application.
3. Link the two devices
Once both applications are installed, it’s time to link them together. To do this, open the Microsoft app on your computer and select the field “I have the Connect to Windows app ready.” Then click on “Pair with QR code” and wait until the code appears on your screen.
At the same time, open the application that has been downloaded on the smartphone and press the option “Link your phone and computer”. At that moment, a message will appear, asking if the code is already available on the computer screen. Click “Continue” and do the QR code reading with the device.
4. Accept the permissions
Once the apps are finally linked, you must accept any permissions that appear on your mobile screen so that Microsoft software can show notifications, photos and other smartphone information on your computer.
Once this step is completed, you will be able to view the device’s home page and have access to some quick controls over it.
What functions are available?
Now that you’ve linked your Android phone to your computer, it’s time to take advantage of some of the app’s features. In the left part of the screen, you can control some functions of your cell phonehow to set the ringtone, reduce the music volume and even put it in silent mode.
Whenever you receive a message on your phone, the preview will appear in the center of the app’s screen. If you need to confirm that you really haven’t received anything in the last few minutes, you can click on the “Refresh” button located in the upper left corner of the page.
To access photos, videos and make calls, just click on the button of these functions, which are on the top menu, and follow the step-by-step instructions provided by the software.
I can’t link my devices, how to solve the problem?
If you face any problems during the procedure, we recommend checking again that both devices meet the basic requirements stipulated by the company. In addition, Microsoft also warns that corporate devicesboth cell phones and computers can have profiles that do not allow this type of connection.
However, if everything is ok, the next step is to analyze whether the Microsoft account logged into the computer has any problems, such as a block or the need to update some data. If the functionality still has problems, you can get support from Microsoft by clicking here.
