How to consult debts by CPF (federal, state and municipal)

Many people do not know, but it is possible to consult your active debts by CPF online, without bureaucracy, and free of charge. Active debt is any amount arising from a debt not paid to an administrative entity, which may be the federal, state or municipal government. The amounts owed may refer to all types of tax derived from goods and services from these bodies, as well as include amounts of a non-tax nature, such as the cost of fines and other legal obligations.

There are different ways to consult your active debts, depending on the type of charge. Check out:

The consultation of the active debt with the Federal Government can be done through an official website of the federal government. To do this, it is necessary to have the CPF, date of birth, mother’s name, e-mail and personal phone number. In addition, the first consultation can only be made through a registration and the registration of a security phrase. Observe the steps below:

1. Access the “Regularize” portal by clicking here, scroll down to the end and click on “Register”;

State active debt

To check state debts, the procedure may vary from state to state. As we cannot provide a specific link, we suggest that you search for the term “active debt” (without quotes), followed by the state name (for example: active debt rj). The search should return to a specific page of the State Finance Department.

In the example below, we are on the website of the Attorney General of the State of Pará, but in the case of other states, the address will be different.

Some sites offer detailed searches, where the citizen must enter the CPF.

It is also possible to make the consultation by selecting the tax and the body that collects the debt.

Municipal debt

Here is another query that depends on the site offered in each municipality, and that, therefore, does not have a single link. To find the page for your city, you can search for an expression like “active debt municipality rj” (without quotes).

In the case of the city of Rio de Janeiro, the corresponding link is the first one that appears on Google, which takes us to the page below, from the Municipal Finance Secretariat:

In some cities, the debt query option will be found more easily if you search for the term “municipal debt installment”. Some cities also provide negative certificates, which prove that there are no debts in the applicant’s name.

On the page below, following the example of Rio de Janeiro, note that it is necessary to enter the real estate registration and enter a verification code, in the case of an IPTU consultation.
