Orange, SFR, Free and Bouygues have been deploying their 5G network for a few months. The coverage remains partial with sometimes radically different situations depending on the operators. We help you in this matter to see more clearly.
The first 5G packages are available from the four operators. However, the problem is that for the moment the 5G coverage offered by Orange, SFR, Free Mobile and Bouygues remains very partial, with unequal technologies. Free Mobile, for example, is one of the most advanced, but most of the antennas installed transmit in the 700 MHz band, which means lower speeds, comparable to those of the best 4G technologies.
It should also be noted that 5G is slow to arrive in Paris with some operators. The situation should nevertheless change in March, thanks to a charter signed by the four operators.

What is the list of municipalities covered by 5G depending on the operator?
Orange officially covers more than 160 municipalities the complete list of which is available on an operator’s card. Lille, Lens, Bethune, Douai, Valenciennes, Le Havre, Brest, Reims, several municipalities in the Parisian crown (but not Paris), Orléans, Strasbourg, Mulhouse, Dijon, La Rochelle, Ars-en-Ré, Annemasse, Huez, Toulon, Aix-en-Provence, Calvi, Nîmes, Montpellier, Avignon, Toulouse, Pau, Bordeaux, Saint-Etienne, Le Mans, Angers, Nice, Marseille, Le Mans, Angers and Clermont-Ferrand are notably visible on the map.

Bouygues also has limited 5G coverage in France metropolitan. Obviously, we can see that the network is under construction. But it should be remembered that operators are under pressure to deliver the most satisfactory 5G service possible within a reasonable timeframe. In any case, for now, the four operators are only deploying the simplest 5G network to set up. Which is not to say that these networks always make it possible to achieve the promises of 5G technology. This will take until 2024 and the deployment of the mmWave antenna network, which delivers higher frequencies and will be installed densely, closer to customers.
