THE Samsung announced the launch of Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G this Thursday (14), during the Galaxy Unpacked 2021. The smartphone is the first in the Galaxy S line to bring compatibility with the electronic pen S Pen. One of the highlights of the technical sheet is the camera, which features two telephoto lenses and takes pictures with a 10x optical zoom.
According to Samsung Brazil, the version of the S21 Ultra that will arrive here has the chip Exynos 2100. The North American, as is traditionally the case, boasts the Snapdragon 888. Find out, in the following lines, all information about screen, battery, colors and price of the Galaxy S21 Ultra.
Galaxy S21 Ultra screen allows 120 Hz in WQHD +
For the first time, Samsung smartphone users will be able to take advantage of the greater graphic fluidity provided by the 120 Hz refresh rate at maximum resolution – that is, in WQHD + (3200 x 1440 pixels).
Of course, only practical tests can determine how much this will represent in the smartphone’s battery consumption – and whether it is really feasible to use this “combo” on a daily basis. But Samsung anticipates possible problems by offering a variable refresh rate (from 10 to 120 Hz), which is an evolution over the previous generation, and was already present in the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.
In this way, users can enjoy smooth transitions when playing or performing tasks that require a higher refresh rate, and save battery when the situation is the opposite. It is worth mentioning that, in the less robust models, S21 and S21 +, this rate varies from 48 to 120 Hz.
The 6.8-inch display with curved edges also receives improvements in brightness, reaching 1,500 nits, the highest level ever seen on a Galaxy phone. Samsung also claims that the contrast is 50% better compared to the Galaxy S20 line.
The Galaxy S21 Ultra has a glass back and also has Gorilla Glass Victus protection, which has already proved to be quite resistant with the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. There are black and silver versions, but you can choose custom colors on demand.
A new home for S Pen
Over the past year, many rumors about the end of the Galaxy Note line left a big question in the air: where will the S Pen go, if the series is really discontinued? Now, it looks like we have an answer – even though no official announcement has been made about the end of the other line.
The point is that the S21 Ultra, with all its 6.8 inches of screen, is a full plate to take advantage of the productivity features of the pen, which is now compatible with the most robust model in the Galaxy S series. the conventional model and “Plus” do not support the stylus, as the Ultra accepts any version of the pen, but does not support remote functions.
Unlike the Note line, there is no compartment for the S Pen in the body of the Galaxy S21 Utra, and it is not included in the box. It is possible to store the pen in an appropriate cover, which is also sold separately.
Even better cameras
Four lenses occupy the rear of the Galaxy S21 Ultra. The main sensor is 108 megapixels, and uses technology that combines up to nine pixels in one to capture more light, providing sharp images even at night or in dark environments.
In addition, there is a 12MP ultrawide lens, for landscape photos or those that require greater angulation, and two telephoto lenses, which combine 3x to 10x optical zoom and Dual Pixel sensors for sharper images over great distances.
The manufacturer also emphasizes the Video Snap feature, which allows you to extract high resolution images from videos recorded in 8K, so that you do not miss any important moment. 4K recording is available on all lenses, including the front, which has a 40 MP sensor.
Performance and battery
The Brazilian version of the Galaxy S21 Ultra uses the Exynos 2100 processor, manufactured in a 5 nm process, which promises 40% higher graphics performance.
The specs include eight cores, one of which is high-performance, based on the ARM Cortex-X1, reaching 2.9 GHz. The GPU is the Mali G-78.
The chip also has a new neural processor (NPU) for tasks with artificial intelligence. The component is capable of performing 26 trillion operations per second.
The Exynos 2100 comes with an integrated 5G modem, which supports both sub-6 frequencies and millimeter waves (mmWave).
According to Samsung, the chip is also more efficient and uses 20% less energy. Good news, given the many potential “villains” that can suck the 5,000 mAh battery quickly (like the 5G and 120 Hz screen).
And speaking of the battery, the brand promises up to 50% charge in just 30 minutes at the outlet. It is worth remembering that, as we announced exclusively, the charger is not included in the box – the justification, following the trend of Apple and Xiaomi, is related to environmental preservation.
The S21 Ultra also has an ultra wideband sensor (UWB), which opens up several possibilities for users in the future. The manufacturer highlights some benefits, such as unlocking car doors using the smartphone and using SmartThings Find to search for lost objects, such as Galaxy Buds or Galaxy Watch.
