The name Galaxy makes us think of cell phones, but the Samsung wants the brand to become a benchmark for a wider range of devices. Here is the proof: this Wednesday (28), the company carried out a Galaxy Unpacked to announce two powerful notebooks. O Galaxy Book Pro it’s as thin as a smartphone. The Galaxy Book Pro 360 it is a 2 in 1 model (convertible) and has an S Pen.
In teasers released over the past few days and on the Galaxy Unpacked itself, Samsung has hinted that the new laptops bring together the best in their mobile devices. It is not an exaggeration. In addition to an ultra-thin design, the novelties include an AMOLED screen and a fast charger, for example.
Galaxy Book Pro
It is not the first time that Samsung launches notebooks within the Galaxy family. But, with today’s announcement, the company positions this as a premium line. That is the premise of the Galaxy Book Pro.
The model has an aluminum body and comes in versions with 13.3 and 15.6 inch screens. In both, the panel is Super AMOLED and has a resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels. The other characteristics of the component include a contrast ratio of 1,000,000: 1 and color reproduction that corresponds to 120% of the DCI-P3 standard.
The compact dimensions also attract attention. The 13.3-inch Galaxy Book Pro is 11.2 mm thick and, in the 15.6-inch version, 11.7 mm. The two notebooks are also quite light. They weigh 0.87 kg and 1.15 kg, respectively.
Fortunately, the small size does not imply little connectivity. The notebook has an HDMI, USB-C and USB-C port with Thunderbolt 4 on the left side, in addition to USB type A, connection for headphones and microphone and microSD reader on the right side.
Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.1 complement the question of connectivity, which also includes the option of LTE in the 13.3-inch version.
As for the keyboard, Samsung speaks in more comfortable typing thanks to the wide and slightly curved shape of the keys. A “refined scissor mechanism” also guarantees quick response and silent typing, even in the company’s words.
The keyboard also features an adaptive LED backlight and a fingerprint reader integrated with the on / off button.
But none of that matters if, inside, the notebook disappoints. And it doesn’t disappoint: the Galaxy Book Pro can be equipped with up to 32 GB of LPDDR4X memory and NVMe SSD of up to 1 TB.
The model also has an 11th generation Intel Core i3, i5 or i7 processor with Iris Xe graphics (UHD in the version with i3). The 15.6-inch version still comes with an Nvidia MX450 graphics option.
The battery has 63 Wh in the 13.3 inch version and 68 Wh in the 15.6 version. Both come with a 65 W fast charger and USB-C connection – any similarity to cell phone chargers is no coincidence.
AKG speakers with Dolby Atmos and 720p webcam with microphones that cancel out external noise are among the other attributes.
Galaxy Book Pro 360
Most of the features of the Pro model apply to the Galaxy Book Pro 360. But, while the first focuses on connectivity, the second extends the modes of use: as the number in the name suggests, its screen has a 360 degree opening. The laptop can be turned into a tablet, therefore.
Because of this, the Galaxy Book Pro 360 comes with S Pen. The accessory does not have Bluetooth. On the other hand, Samsung promises practicality for those who need, for example, to use the equipment for graphic works. Therefore, the model’s screen is, in addition to Super AMOLED and full HD, touch sensitive.
Like the Pro model, the Galaxy Book Pro 360 has versions in 13.3 and 15.6 inches. In contrast, the convertible has fewer physical connections: on the left side, a USB-C and a USB-C with Thunderbolt 4; on the right side, a USB-C, a connection for headphones and a microphone, as well as a microSD reader.
Yes, weights and sizes are reduced here. The Pro 360 weighs 1.04 kg in the 13.3-inch version and 1.39 kg in the 15.6-inch version. The thicknesses are 11.5 and 11.9 mm, respectively.
The Pro 360 line also features 11th generation Intel Core chips, up to 32 GB of RAM, 1 TB SSD and 63 or 68 Wh battery with fast charger. Just don’t expect to find covers for expansion here: Samsung explains that, as these notebooks are very compact, it is difficult to position the components at the bottom without increasing their dimensions (this is also true for the Book Pro).
Today, Samsung made the official announcement of the new Galaxy Book models. Release dates and prices for Brazil have not yet been released, however.
It is worth mentioning that the Galaxy Book Pro will be sold in the colors Mystic Silver (silver), Mystic Blue (blue) and Mystic Pink Gold (rosé). The 360 model will have versions in Mystic Navy (dark blue), Mystic Silver and Nystic Bronze.
The 13.3-inch version of the Galaxy Book Pro 360 will have a 5G option.
