The Vehicle Registration Certificate (CRV), which gathers all vehicle information, as well as owner data, underwent important changes at the end of 2020. From Resolution No. 809 of the National Traffic Council (Contran), published in December 24, 2020, the issuance of the Licensing Registration Certificate (CRLV) became digital.
With the change, the document now contains the CRV (popularly known as the DUT) and the Annual Licensing Certificate (CLA). Although access has apparently become less bureaucratic and simple, since it can be done over the internet, many people may have questions during registration and issuance. With that in mind, we created a guide on how to obtain the CRV Digital.
CRV: changes and information
Well, before you get to know the process, you need to understand the terms. CRV and CRLV usually generate some confusion, precisely because they have such similar acronyms. However, each certificate concerns a specific situation. The CRV stands for Vehicle Registration Certificate and is where all the car’s information is gathered, as well as some of the owner’s data.
Until the end of 2020, this document added the DUT (Single Transfer Document), used to transfer ownership of the car to third parties — precisely for this reason, a large part of the population called both documents “DUT”. As a matter of fact, with the electronic version, the DUT underwent some changes and, among them, in its nomenclature, which became the Authorization for Transfer of Ownership of the Vehicle (APTV-e).
The CRLV, in turn, is that document that every driver must carry while using the vehicle, as it informs, through the annual licensing, whether a vehicle is or is not able to transit in the city. With these measures, the government intends to make these documents primarily digital.
“As of 01/04/2021, the Vehicle Registration and Licensing Certificate (CRLV-e) will continue to be issued in digital media (CDT, Denatran Services Portal and Detran Website) with the possibility of printing, but it will pass valid as Vehicle Registration Certificate (CRV) and Annual Licensing Certificate (CLA)”, explains the Denatran Services Portal. In other words, CRLV and CRV have been unified into a single document.
How to get CRLV-e?
Conatran Resolution No. 809 generated a series of changes, including the CRLV “registration” process, which, since January 4, 2021, has been done automatically by Serpro (Federal Data Processing Service). So since you don’t have to worry about the registration itself, how do you access the document?
The first step is to have an account on the government website. If you don’t have it yet, just access the page and, on the initial screen, click on the green button that says “Create your gov.br account”. With your profile credentials in hand, follow the steps below:
Step 1: Access the Play Store or App Store and, in the search field, search for the Digital Traffic Card application and download it. Once the installation is complete, open the program and tap “Enter with gov.br”. Access your account, informing CPF and password, and click “Next”;
Step 2: The program will ask for your permission to access your account data on the government website. Confirm the action by tapping on “Authorize”;
Step 4: Once this is done, the app will open the home screen. Among the available options, click on the “Vehicles” tab and then on the “Tap here to add a CRLV” button;
Step 5: Then enter the RENAVAM number and then the security code of the Vehicle Registration Certificate (CRV), which is located in the upper right corner of the document.
And ready! Once that’s done, you can leave the printed document at home and, when you need it, just access the app on your cell phone.
How to download and print CRLV-e?
Through the application itself, it is possible to download the PDF document and/or print it. With the program open, access the CRLV-e and tap the three balls in the lower right corner. Select the “Export” option and share the file in an application, such as WhatsApp, or send it by email to print it later.

It is also possible to carry out the process through the Denatran website, just access it and click on the “Vehicles” tab. Then, you must inform the credentials of your gov.br account. On the next page, find the “Download CRLV” button in the left column of options. Fill in the requested data and click on “Proceed”.
It is worth noting that you can request the printing of the document as many times as necessary. However, Serpro emphasizes that, in order to issue CRLV Digital, it is necessary to be up to date with the vehicle’s obligations and debts.
