THE Galaxy M31 it’s the Galaxy A71 it is Samsung’s intermediate smartphones that stand out for their robust technical data. The first arrived in Brazil in July 2020, while the second landed here in January of the same year. THE Tecnoblog has already evaluated both phones and presents a comparison below to help you choose.
- The Samsung Galaxy A71 was launched in Brazil in January 2020;

Design and Colors
At the rear, the Galaxy M31 and Galaxy A71 follow the visual language of the top models of the South Korean. They have plastic construction, however the finish of the A71 is “more improved”, generating a premium cell phone impression.
They bring a photographic set with four lenses. The rear of the M31 received a fingerprint reader; the A71 is completely smooth, since the unlock with the digital is done directly on the screen.
At the front, more screen and less edges: the M31 and A71 do not have physical buttons on the front. The first, however, has a more prominent chin, so the frontal use of the Galaxy A71 stands out.
The available colors are:
- Galaxy M31: blue, black and pink
- Galaxy A71: blue (light), black and gray
At 191 grams, there is an explanation for the Galaxy M31 being heavier: the device has a 6,000 mAh battery, which influences the construction and weight of the smartphone. But it also doesn’t mean he is mega heavy.
Check out all the measures below:
|Galaxy M31||Galaxy A71|
|Height||159.2 mm||163.6 mm|
|Thickness||8.9 mm||7.7 mm|
|Width||75.1 mm||76.0 mm|
|Weight||191 grams||179 grams|
The Samsung Galaxy A71 comes out as the champion for the most premium finish.
Winner: Galaxy A71
On screen, Samsung does not disappoint. Galaxy M31 and Galaxy A71 work with Super AMOLED (Super AMOLED Plus in the case of the A71). The M family model is 6.4 inches and has Full HD + resolution (2340 x 1080 pixels), 19.5: 9 aspect ratio. It has a more discreet drop-shaped notch, which is also called Infinity-U by the brand.
The Galaxy A71 has a larger screen of 6.7 inches with Full HD + resolution (2400 × 1080 pixels) and 20: 9 aspect ratio. This screen is interrupted by a hole for the selfie camera, a format known as Infinity-O. In addition, there is a fingerprint reader right on the screen.

|Size||6.4 inches||6.7 inches|
|Screen Type||Super AMOLED||Super AMOLED Plus|
|Screen ratio||19.5: 9||20: 9|

Winner: Galaxy A71
Here, the similarity goes beyond the arrangement of the lenses. The main camera of the Galaxy M31 is 64 megapixel with f / 1.8 aperture, ultrawide is my favorite and has 8 megapixel (f / 2.2) with 123 degree field of view, the macro lens has 5 megapixel with f / 2.4 aperture, while the depth sensor, for your portraits, has 5 megapixels and f / 2.2 aperture.
The front camera has 32 megapixels and an aperture of f / 2.0.
The premium intermediary, A71, received a 64 megapixel (f / 1.8) main camera, the ultrawide, in turn, has 12 megapixels (f / 2.2), the macro has 5 megapixels (f / 2, 4) and the depth sensor closes the photographic set here with 5 megapixels (f / 2.2). At the front, the selfie camera has 32 megapixels (f / 2.2).
It is worth mentioning that both the Galaxy M31 and the A71 deliver photos with very high saturation, so, most likely, you will have to resort to a photo editing app to reduce the colors before applying a filter. Apart from that, both can produce beautiful photographs and, with ultrawide, you can play a lot.
Ah, both devices record in 4K at 30 fps.

Processor, RAM, battery and storage
Inside, the Galaxy M31 is equipped with Samsung’s own processor, the Exynos 9611 octa-core 2.3 GHz and the Galaxy A71 received a Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 octa-core 2.2 GHz.
The M-line smartphone has the same processor as the Galaxy A51, an intermediate chip that performs well in most tasks, but can have bottlenecks in heavy games. The Snapdragon 730 runs complex games without much difficulty and applications open with agility. Thus, the Galaxy A71 can be interesting for those who frequently play on the smartphone.
In the benchmark tests of Notebookcheck, the M31 scored 348 points in single core and 1,325 points in multi-core. The A71 scored 542 points in single core and 1,647 points in multi-core, as shown by the Notebookcheck.
As for the operating system, the Galaxy M31 and A71 run Android 10. The interface of the first is One UI Core 2.0 and A71 is with One UI 2.0.
Here, the two smartphones stand out: they deliver 6 GB of RAM.
There is no doubt that the Galaxy M31 excels in terms of battery, after all we are talking about the greater battery capacity in a Samsung smartphone: there are 6,000 mAh, against 4,500 mAh of the Galaxy A71.
Here are some numbers that explain the range of the Galaxy M31 well:
|Activity||Galaxy M31||Galaxy A71|
|Video Playback||Up to 26 hours||Up to 24 hours|
|Audio playback||Up to 119 hours||Up to 107 hours|
|Connections (4G LTE)||Up to 48 hours||Up to 42 hours|
When it comes to battery power, the M31 doesn’t appeal to much. During testing the Tecnoblog, the cell phone took 2 hours and 40 minutes to reach its full charge. The A71 takes 1 hour and 24 minutes only.
In Brazil, the M31 is for sale with only 128 GB of internal storage. I say “only” because in other countries Samsung made available a 64 GB version, which would be interesting in Brazil, considering consumers who are on a tight budget. The Galaxy A71, on the other hand, has 128 GB, too.
- Processor winner: Galaxy A71
- Battery winner: Galaxy M31
- RAM memory winner: indifferent
- Winner of internal storage: indifferent

Galaxy M31 or Galaxy A71: which one to buy?
It is evident that the Samsung Galaxy A71 comes out as the champion in this comparison. Unfortunately, like many electronics, the premium intermediary experienced a significant price increase during the pandemic.
But, as Paulo Higa says, the A71 is that good smartphone for most people: it stands out for its consistent performance, premium design, great connectivity features and Super AMOLED Plus panel.
The Galaxy M31 is not out of the game. With its specifications, we can consider that the “most basic” model is in the middle of the Galaxy A51 and A71.
The 6,000 mAh battery is the highlight here, but it also achieves with the Super AMOLED screen, four cameras and 6 GB RAM. All of this for a very interesting price; it is also worth remembering that the M31 is only sold in online retail, which contributes to the reduction in price. However, it could deliver more: NFC and other One UI 2.0 features (like Secure Folder) could be here.
Ok, now what? Come on: I recommend the Galaxy M31 for you that seeks the basics: social networks, streaming and calls. It will perform very well in these tasks and still deliver solid performance. Now, if you are a demanding consumer who often plays on your cell phone, the A71 is a good option. But the price …
