Are you looking for a new iPhone? You have come to the right place, dear readers. In this buying guide, we present our selection of the best Apple smartphones of the moment. Finally, we also answer all your questions about iPhones. Follow the guide.
Our pick of the best Apple iPhones
It’s decided: you will finally fall for an iPhone. In 2020, Apple’s cell phone offering has grown vast. Contrary to its habits a few years ago, the Cupertino fi rm now offers iPhones for all prices and (almost all tastes).
iPhone 11 Pro: the ultimate
We start with the ultimate in the market, the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. Almost identical, they are distinguished from each other only by the size of their AMOLED screen: 5.8 inches for the standard version and 6.5 inches for the max version. Both smartphones stand out with a premium and luxurious design and a sleek Super Retina XDR display topped with a notch.
This notch hides the sensors necessary for Face ID facial recognition, Apple’s revolutionary technology. Thanks to its A13 Bionic chip, they promise crazy performance. It’s simple: they are the most powerful devices on the market, far ahead of Android rivals in benchmarks. Apple has also hit hard in the area of photography. The triple 12-megapixel photo sensor on the back allows you to take great shots in most situations.
Finally, both variants are compatible with wireless induction charging and come with an 18W fast charger.
This generation disappoints only with its worn-out design (the same or almost since the iPhone X released in 2017) and the return of the large notch. Unsurprisingly, Apple sells its vintage at a high price. The standard 11 Pro with just 64GB of storage is priced at $ 1,159. For its part, the iPhone 11 Pro Max is priced from 1259 euros. The price list reaches 1559 euros for the model with 512 GB of storage. At that price, you’ll be treating yourself to the ultimate in Apple’s catalog.

|High performance||Aging design|
||Perfectible portrait mode

iPhone 11: good value for money
We continue with the iPhone 11, the affordable iPhone of the 2019 generation. Successor to the iPhone XR and little brother of the iPhone 11 Pro, it is equipped with an A3 Bionic chip for incredible performance. Unlike top-of-the-line models, it’s covered with a 6.1-inch Liquid Retina HD LCD rather than OLED and just has a dual photo sensor on the back. In particular, the camera skips the telephoto sensor.
It offers decent battery life but still fails to compete with the iPhone 11 Pro. Nevertheless, it will largely last the day with a single recharge. Available in 6 original colors, which will delight lovers of tangy colors, it is sold at a starting price of 800 euros for the version equipped with 64 GB of internal storage.
|The +||The –|
|Beautiful finishes||No 3.5mm jack|
|Performances||Design unchanged from the iPhone X|

iPhone XS / XS Max: the alternative to iPhone 11 Pro
For the most limited budgets, we advise you to take a look at the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, Apple’s flagship flagships in 2018. Very similar to the iPhone X, they are respectively built around an OLED screen of 5, 8 and 6.5 inches. On the market since September 2018, their price has gradually fallen. They can be found on Amazon between 600 and 800 euros. Obviously, the price varies depending on the model and the storage space chosen.
For a lower price than the iPhone 11 Pro, you will get a powerful, elegant, luxurious smartphone with an efficient dual photo sensor. There is also Face ID, wireless induction charging and IP68 certi fi cation. On the other hand, they do not compete against the iPhone 11 Pro in the field of autonomy.
IPhone XS will only last for a day of normal use. On the other hand, the iPhone XS Max struggles to make it half a day on a single charge. Despite these concessions, the iPhone XS remains very interesting alternatives.
|The +||The –|
|A sleek design similar to the iPhone 11 Pro||A little disappointing autonomy for the high end|
|An efficient double photo sensor||A notch as wide as ever|
|Face ID and IP68|

iPhone XR: the ideal alternative to iPhone 11
Let’s move on to the iPhone XR, the affordable iPhone launched in 2018 to accompany the iPhone XS. It’s a great alternative to the iPhone 11, which it is very close to. The iPhone Xr is enhanced by a perfectly calibrated 6.1-inch LCD screen topped with a notch for Face ID sensors. Like all iPhones, it offers exceptional performance thanks to Apple’s expertise in SoC design. As enduring as the iPhone Xs Max, it promises a day and a half of battery life for fairly full use.
Obviously, it’s not as good at it as the iPhone 11s, but it doesn’t deserve it. It is especially not as good as its successor in the field of photography. With its unique photo sensor, it doesn’t take such detailed shots. The iPhone Xr is now available for around $ 500, which is a savings of $ 300 compared to the iPhone 11. This is an option to consider if you’re on a budget.
|The +||The –|
|High performance||No fast charger supplied|
||Screen integration is rough
|Fast charging and wireless charging
||No bokeh on objects

iPhone SE: for small hands and small budgets
In April 2020, Apple decided to complete its offer with a new iPhone SE. Similar to the iPhone 8 (and iPhone 7,6S and 6), it uses a well-worn recipe. The smartphone is built around a 4.7-inch LCD screen surrounded by wide bezels. It skips Face ID facial recognition and opts for an antique Touch ID fingerprint reader, which should please fans of the scanner.
Thanks to the same chip as the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max sold almost three times more expensive, it offers top performance. Likewise, the shots taken by the unique 12-megapixel photo sensor are impressive. We owe this feat to the algorithms developed by Apple. However, it is not as versatile and comprehensive as another iPhone’s device. On the other hand, it sins by its simply catastrophic autonomy.
According to our tests, the iPhone SE 2020 does not last more than 5 hours of versatile use. It is therefore far from the other iPhones in this selection. Users will therefore have to get used to plugging in their phones regularly. Obviously, the iPhone SE 2020 is not for the most greedy users. It will especially delight lovers of compact smartphones and buyers on a budget. The iPhone SE 2020 with 64 GB of internal storage is indeed sold at only 489 euros. It’s the cheapest iPhone on the market.
|The +||The –|
||Screen from another time (and too small)
||Average audio quality
||No jack / lightning adapter supplied
||Lack of versatility|

💽How much internal storage?
Everything obviously depends on your habits and your uses. If you mainly use your smartphone to send messages, browse social networks, or watch videos on Netflix, Disney +, or Amazon Prime Video, we recommend that you opt for 64 or 128 GB of storage. For the most basic uses, this amount is more than enough.
On the other hand, if you regularly install iOS applications on your phone, or if you often take photographs, we invite you to go for models equipped with 256 GB or 512 GB. This is all the more true for videographers. who want to record very large 4K videos. Note, however, that it is possible to store fi les online through an iCloud online storage subscription. Apple offers 5 GB free to all users. For more memory, it will be necessary to go to the cash register and take out a subscription.
🔋Which iPhone has the best battery life?
For years, Apple has lagged the Android competition in the autonomy arena. With the iPhone 11 Pro, the Californian brand has finally corrected the situation. The iPhone 11 Pro thus offers two days of battery life. The 11 Pro Max even reaches 2.5 days. For the most greedy users, we invite you to turn to this generation. On the other hand, we will not recommend the iPhone SE 2020, which has poor battery life.
📸How many photo sensors?
Photography enthusiasts will obviously turn to the iPhone equipped with three sensors on the back: the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max. If photography isn’t so much your thing, you could settle for a device that just uses a single photo sensor, like the iPhone SE or iPhone XR.
📅When to buy a new iPhone?
Apple is still introducing a new generation of iPhone in September. We therefore advise against changing iPhone during the summer. While you wait for the September keynote, you won’t be missing out on a new iPhone you can enjoy. Likewise, Apple’s annual conference always comes with a price drop for models released the year before. We therefore invite you to change iPhone at the end or the beginning of the year. With the exception of the iPhone SE, which is not yet on the agenda for renewal.
🤔Face ID or Touch ID?
Again, it all depends on your tastes and habits. While some users quickly fell in love with Face ID facial recognition, others prefer the traditional Touch ID fingerprint reader. Unlike the Android competition, Apple does not integrate the fingerprint scanner under the display. This is placed in a large border under the slab. The only iPhone in this selection to take advantage of Touch ID is the iPhone SE 2020. If you can’t stand facial recognition, then this is the iPhone for you.
🤷♂️What accessories for my iPhone?
Unsurprisingly, we advise you to protect your new iPhone with a protective shell or case. Most iPhones are compatible with wireless charging, so we recommend that you invest in a base. Finally, you can also accompany your iPhone with an Apple Watch or a pair of AirPods or AirPods Pro.
💰What budget for my iPhone?
Apple has a reputation for selling its iPhones at stratospheric prices. It is both true and false. If Apple offers many iPhones at high prices (beyond 1000 €), such as the iPhone 11 Pro, there are also solutions for the most modest budgets. Since 2018, Apple has accompanied its two most expensive iPhones with an affordable model, including the iPhone XR and iPhone 11.
They are respectively sold around 500 and 800 euros, on an e-commerce site like Amazon. For users who don’t want to spend large sums of money on a smartphone, Apple has also released the iPhone SE 2020. The smartphone starts at $ 489. Depending on your needs and uses, the budget necessary to buy an iPhone therefore varies from € 500 to € 1,500.
For a high-end, state-of-the-art iPhone, count a budget of 1000 €. For an affordable edition, or an older generation, count between 500 and 800 euros. We hope this guide to buying the best iPhones on the market will help you make informed purchases.
