New iMac uses M1 chip and has color versions

The iMac line was updated at today’s event, and this is a major upgrade: Apple’s all-in-one desktops now feature the M1 chip, the same that is present in the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air launched in 2020 with ARM architecture.

What draws the most attention in the new iMacs are the colors, and it is possible to choose between metallic gray, blue, purple, pink, orange, yellow or light green. With a clean design and without the apple on the front, the new equipment is very thin, with a thickness of only 11.5 mm.

The screen is 24 inches and 4.5K resolution, has anti-reflective coating and supports more than 1 billion colors. Apple makes a point of highlighting the sound quality, and the new iMac has a set with six speakers and two pairs of woofers, which allow spatial audio with bass reproduction without causing unwanted vibrations.

The new iMac also features an updated version of the Magic Keyboard, which supports Touch ID biometrics on the most expensive models. The keyboard has an Emojis button, and the set with the mouse accompanies the color of the iMac.

Speaking of connectivity, Apple included two USB 4 ports with Thunderbolt support in the entry model; the most expensive version has two more USB 3 ports, all in USB-C format. The power adapter of the most advanced iMacs also has an Ethernet network port.

The new iMac will hit stores in the United States starting April 30. Apple has not yet announced the date for the launch in Brazil, but national prices range from R $ 17,599 to R $ 22,599.

New iPad Pro also has M1 chip and 5G support

The new generation of iPad Pro arrives with a pleasant surprise: the tablet now has the M1 chip, the same present in the 2020 MacBook Air and MacBook Pro and in the new colored iMacs. With GPU and octa-core CPU, Apple promises performance 50% faster than the previous A12Z Bionic.

With versions of 11 and 12.9 inches, the new iPad Pro also have support for Thunderbolt on the USB-C port; the standard allows high-speed data transfer, as well as support for an external monitor with 6K resolution.

Another novelty is that the version with cellular connectivity of the new iPad Pro has support for 5G, but the compatibility with millimeter waves (mmWave) is restricted to equipment sold in the United States.

The new iPad Pro continues with a dual camera set and features a LiDAR sensor, which allows you to measure depth of field and provide augmented reality experiences. The now front camera has a feature that follows the face during video calls, even when moving sideways – something similar to the Echo Show 10, but which works only via software.

In the version with 12.9-inch screen, the iPad Pro has Liquid Retina XDR display, with mini-LED technology to offer more contrast and greater dynamic range. The 11-inch model continues with the Liquid Retina standard, and both sizes support a 120 Hz refresh rate, P3 color gamut and Apple Pencil operation.

The launch date for the iPad Pro in Brazil has not yet been revealed, and prices start at R $ 10,799 for the 11-inch version and R $ 14,799 for the model with a 12.9-inch screen.

Apple TV gets new remote control and HDR support

After almost four years without major news, Apple launched a new Apple TV. The company’s set-top-box features the A12 Bionic processor, the same present in the iPhone XS or XR and the iPad 2020.

A new feature that allows you to “calibrate” the TV stands out: in conjunction with the iPhone, the new Apple TV automatically adjusts the color balance and contrast to display the content in a standard closer to cinematic specifications.

The new Apple TV now supports videos in Dolby Vision and HDR format at 60 frames per second. The company works to ensure that services like Paramount + and Red Bull TV support HDR content at a high update rate.

Despite all the advances in the box, what draws the most attention is the new remote control. Apple abandoned the old Siri Remote, which had an inconvenient trackpad for navigation. Now silver and with physical buttons, the new control has become bigger and thicker – that is, less difficult to lose – and continues to support voice command by Siri.

The new Apple TV still has no date to arrive in Brazil, but the price has already been revealed by the company: whoever wants an apple set-top-box will have to pay R $ 2,399 in the 32 GB model or R $ 2,599 in the version 64 GB.

AirTag is a tracker that helps you find items

AirTags have finally arrived: rumors about this device started in April 2020, and the product allows you to find lost objects like keys, wallets, backpacks or even travel bags.

The AirTag looks like a big clothing button, and can be placed almost anywhere. Using connection via Bluetooth and UWB (Ultra Wideband), the equipment takes advantage of an extensive network created between Apple devices to allow location even without a 4G connection.

Items with AirTags can be found within the app Search, also used to find lost iPhone, iPad, Mac or AirPods. The digital tracker works with greater precision for those who have an iPhone 11 or higher, and has a built-in speaker to emit audible alerts.

An important detail is that the AirTag works with a removable battery in the CR2032 standard, with autonomy for up to one year.

AirTags will go on sale in the United States from April 30, and cost $ 29 in the individual version or $ 99 in the four-unit package. In Brazil, the unit will be sold for R $ 369, and the four-piece combo will cost R $ 1,249.

The new iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini in purple

Among so many new features presented today, Apple also announced that the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini will also be marketed in purple.

Apart from the color, there is nothing new in the iPhone 12: it continues with the same A14 Bionic chip, the same battery and 5G support. According to the Apple Brazil website, the model will go on pre-order next Friday and will be available from April 30, 2021.

Apple Podcasts with subscription model

The apple podcast platform received good news today: in addition to the new interface, Apple launched the Channels feature, which allows users to find episodes suggested by content creators.

Another interesting feature is Smart Play, which will allow listeners to start listening to podcasts from the newest episode – useful for news production, for example – or from the beginning, if it makes sense to consume the content in chronological order.

The most striking feature is that users will be able to subscribe to podcasts for a fee. Available in 170 countries starting in May, content creators will be able to offer benefits to paid listeners, including early episodes, extra content and an ad-free version.

In addition to the paid subscription, Apple will also allow creators to make Freemium content available, to offer additional content to fans of the podcast. You can share your subscription with up to six members using the Family Sharing feature.

To enable subscriptions or provide extra content to subscribers, the creator must be part of Apple’s podcast program – in Brazil, the company charges an annual fee of R $ 109.90 for anyone who wants to subscribe to the subscription model.
