Launched in 2020, the 4th generation Amazon Echo it’s the Google Nest Audio they gained a new design, improved hardware and the sound configuration was given special attention. Both devices are already available in Brazil and can be a good option for those looking for a smart speaker with powerful sound.
Amazon Echo landed here in September last year and costs R $ 749; Google Nest Audio only came in April 2021 for R $ 849. One brings Alexa, the other Google Assistant. After all, which smart speaker should you invest in? Which is the most powerful? And, of course, what is the best personal assistant? I answer these and other questions in this brief comparison.

Design: Google Nest Audio
Starting with the design, the two devices bring a completely different look, but the traditional fabric continues here. The Amazon Echo turned into a cute crystal ball with an LED ring on the bottom and physical buttons on the top. Google Nest Audio has a design that I classify as bold, but that’s not bad. It is minimalist, looks beautiful in any environment and even among plants. This generation has four LEDs on the front and capacitive controls that is a differential.
The Google device still stands out for the variety of colors: the sand, green and blue models are very beautiful. But, unfortunately, these options are not available in Brazil. Still, who wins in design is Google Nest Audio for having a different design and with different colors.
Connections: Amazon Echo
When we look at connections, Amazon Echo remains in the spotlight. With the audio input, you can connect it to an external speaker and have an even more powerful experience. On the other hand, the only port of Google Nest Audio is the cargo port.
Both have Bluetooth 5.0, so you can connect them to a laptop, phone or tablet to play music and podcasts. However, due to its versatility, the 4th generation Amazon Echo is the winner.
Alexa or Google Assistant: Google Assistant
Alexa or Google Assistant? Which one is the best? Next, Alexa is a great system for the smart home: it talks to the main devices in the industry, can act as a hub and has no glaring limitations for smart home. However, Amazon’s artificial intelligence tends to be slower to answer questions and sometimes fails when you try to ask difficult questions.
Google Assistant, even with a robotic aspect, can include your name in the middle of sentences, providing accurate and even personalized answers. In the Nest Audio review, now available on Tecnoblog, I said that both systems use Wikipedia as a search source, but only Google Assistant works best with the digital encyclopedia. Still on Google, it weighs in your favor the fact that you already have access to a lot of our data: searches, purchases, schedules, frequented places and more. All of this contributes to personalization.
Google Assistant is the best personal assistant.
Music services: Amazon Echo
In support of music services, we have this scenario: Amazon Echo is obviously compatible with Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify, Deezer and TuneIn. Nest Audio can play from Spotify, YouTube Music and has support for TuneIn, too. Amazon’s equipment is the most complete for those who subscribe to streaming audio platforms. Finding other related services is also easier on the Alexa app, from the skills.
Despite this, if you are a subscriber to YouTube Music and use the platform frequently, Nest Audio becomes the best option. However, the highlight is Amazon Echo.
Sound quality: Amazon Echo
In sound quality, Google Nest Audio has a more open sound, while Echo is more full-bodied and loud. I like this second proposal and, although it presents a little embolization in the middle when the volume is high, Echo sounds alive and the bass are always present and I like it.
Nest Audio focuses on the mids and trebles. The beats are also present, but the competitor stands out here. Despite the differences in this regard, the two devices are pleasing, but Amazon Echo wins.
Speech recognition: Google Nest Audio
Speech recognition is good on both devices, but the Google gadget is more sensitive. Therefore, in more complex scenarios, it tends to respond better. To test, I left an LG Xboom Go PL7 box playing music at high volume. Both smart speakers struggled when I said “Ok Google” and “Alexa” without shouting. However, Nest Audio was the fastest to recognize in an environment with high external sound.
I want to point out that this does not mean that Amazon Echo microphones are bad. The controls work very well in quiet places. Still, Nest Audio wins by sensitivity.
Connected house: Amazon Echo
Amazon Echo is practically synonymous with connected home. The Alexa app has an exclusive menu for this sector and is compatible with thousands of smart home products, including the most popular and even the less famous ones. Integration is also very accurate, as the company works with skills – a feature that is missing in Google Assistant.
Whoever buys Nest Audio will be able to control lamps, switches, sockets, TVs, security cameras, robot vacuum cleaners and more. Only this whole experience is much better at Echo. Point to Amazon.
Best Smart Speaker: Amazon Echo
The score went like this: 4 points for Amazon Echo and 3 points for Google Nest Audio. The two devices are quite different, but these numbers show how much they do not disappoint in what they propose to do. Amazon Echo is the best purchase option today for most people because it is synonymous with a connected home, supports the main music services, has a presence sound and the connections provide good versatility.
Google Nest Audio, on the other hand, is still a great smart speaker, but I recommend it to anyone who is more involved in the Google ecosystem. His strengths are the bold design with varied colors, speech recognition and the Google Assistant that follows as the best personal assistant for you to interact.
