Sony launches the WF-1000XM4, its new wireless active noise headphones. Taking the excellent formula of the WF-1000XM3, the WF-1000XM4 rely on the “best active noise reduction” on the market, accompanied by more high-resolution sound via High-Res Audio Wireless certification.
The last few weeks have seen many leaks about the WF-1000XM4, Sony’s latest active noise canceling wireless headphones. For example, we were able to discover the redesigned design of the WF-1000XM4, more compact and discreet, while a video revealed almost all of their features.
This Tuesday, June 8, 2021, Sony has decided to take the lead by officially unveiling the WF-1000XM4. Taking up the excellent formula of the WF-1000XM3, the manufacturer offers here “the best active noise reduction on the market ” in particular thanks to a brand new V1 processor. This chip is mainly based on that of the WH-1000XM3 headphones, namely the QN1e developed by Sony.
WF-1000XM4: Hi-Res Audio technology makes its debut
As a reminder, the latter was equipped with a two microphone system (exterior and interior) which effectively filter surrounding noise and allow the user to completely merge with his music. We must add to this a new 6mm high resolution diaphragm with 20% larger magnet than on previous models. As a result, the WF-1000XM4 perform better at low frequencies, and by extension offer increased noise cancellation.
On the sound quality side, the latest Sony headphones support Hi-Res Audio wireless technology, which via LDAC, transmits about three more data than conventional Bluetooth (up to 990 kbps). In addition, the sound quality of compressed audio files such as MP3 is significantly improved, thanks to the DSEE Extreme technology (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine).
Comfort at the heart of the experience
Ease of use is also a central concern of Sony, which has provided the WF-1000XM4 with many features to improve the user experience. Let’s quickly list these different additions:
- Function Speak-to-chat automatically interrupts the music and lets the ambient sound pass as soon as the use starts a conversation
- The mode Quick Attention allows you to let in ambient sound and listen to your surroundings by simply pressing the left earphone
- The mode Wind Noise Reduction detects the presence of wind and removes its effects automatically
- The mode Adaptive Sound Control detects user location and activity (walking, running, etc.) and automatically adjusts active noise reduction settings to optimize the listening experience
As for the design, these WF-1000XM4 are indeed 10% smaller than previous models, while the charging case is 40% smaller on its side. In order to adapt to the maximum number of users, the headphones are delivered with 3 sizes of insulating tipss. Remember, however, that Sony offered 7 with the WF-1000XM3.
8h battery life with active noise reduction
Let’s conclude on the autonomy of these WF-1000 XM4. Sony thus promises 8 hours of battery life with active noise reduction and the case offers up to 16 hours additional, thus bringing the whole to 24 hours. A quick charge feature answers the call, with the ability to get an hour of listening time in just 5 minutes of charging. Finally, the WF-1000 XM4 are IPX4 certified, that is to say they are protected against splashing water. This is not the case, however, with the charging box.
