5 ways to prove the INSS life and not lose the benefit

Proof of life is the main mechanism used by the National Institute of Social Security (INSS) to prevent fraud in receiving social security benefits. Every year, about 36 million retirees and pensioners must undergo the procedure so that payments are not suspended.

In 2020, due to the pandemic, the presentation of proof of life is no longer mandatory. Therefore, last year only 6.5 million beneficiaries carried out the proof voluntarily.

As of June 2021, the INSS determined the reversal of the mandatory procedure. As of August, another 25 million people have proven they are alive to continue receiving benefits.

With this, about 5 million beneficiaries still need to prove their life. In order not to have the payment of the benefit suspended, the beneficiary must carry out the procedure, according to the calendar updated by the INSS.

How to make proof of life of the INSS?

The INSS offers several ways for retirees and pensioners to prove that they are alive and to avoid blocking payments, including for those who are unable to move for health reasons. Get to know 5 ways.

1. Proof of life by app

Beneficiaries who have facial biometrics registered at the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) or at the Department of Transit (Detran), can still make the proof of life through the Meu INSS application. This form is available to just over 500,000 people. The app can be downloaded from the Play Store or App Store. Banco do Brasil customers can provide proof directly through the financial institution’s application.

The best known way to carry out the proof of life is in person at the bank where the beneficiary receives the benefit. The procedure can be performed at any ATM, through biometric registration. Caixa Econômica Federal, Bradesco and Itaú Unibanco accept any transaction carried out using biometrics as proof of life.

If the retiree or pensioner does not have the biometrics registered, the INSS guideline is to look for a bank agency responsible for receiving the benefit, with a CPF and a photo identification document, such as RG, driver’s or work license. If you are unable to go to the bank, you must schedule an appointment by calling 135 at an INSS unit.

3. Proof of Life by Power of Attorney

Beneficiaries who are unable to attend the bank due to mobility difficulties or illness can provide proof of life through an attorney. However, for this to occur, the power of attorney must be previously registered with the INSS.

Insured persons over 80 years of age or who are of any age and cannot move around have the right by law to carry out the procedure in their own domicile on an emergency and priority basis. For this, the beneficiary or his representative must schedule the proof of life by calling 135 or through the Meu INSS website.

In case of mobility difficulty, the service “Request Life Proof – Mobility Difficulty” must be selected, of the task type, distance service modality, code 4972, acronym PVIDADIFLO and a medical document proving the condition must be attached.

For beneficiaries over 80 years old, the option “Request Life Proof – Over 80 years old” must be selected – code 4952, acronym PVIDAIDOSO.

5. Beneficiaries residing abroad

Those who live abroad do not need to follow the calendar published by the INSS. The body must publish a new act with specific guidelines and deadlines. However, the beneficiary may voluntarily carry out the proof of life in Brazilian diplomatic or consular representations.

The person must complete and sign the “Specific Life Certificate Form for proof before the INSS” in the presence of a local public notary and duly authorized by Organs local authorities in the case of countries that are signatories to the Convention on the Elimination of the Legalization Requirement.

Those who missed the deadline and had their benefit blocked, can take the proof of life at the bank where they receive the payment. After verification, the resource is released at the same time.

After six months after suspension, the INSS cancels the benefit. In these cases, the person must request the reactivation of the benefit through the Meu INSS app. The order is analyzed for a period that can take up to 40 days and, if accepted, payment is released within 72 hours.
