  • Then More
  • Select Add a shortcut

  • Go into a conversation
  • Tap your friend’s name

If you lose your phone or change it, you will no longer have access to your conversations. However, it is possible to automatically save them to your Google Drive account (automatically included for free with your Play Store account) to be sure not to lose them.

  • Go to the menu (3 small dots at the top right)
  • Go to Settings

It is possible to format the text you write in your messages on the fly, the trick is to know how since WhatsApp does not have a bold, italic, strikethrough or underline button. You actually need to surround your text with some special characters:

  • * Fat *
  • _Italics_
  • ~ Strikethrough ~
  • ```Espacement constant```

Like Facebook, it is possible to export your personal data:

  • Go to Settings> Account> Request account info
  • Touch Request the report

The request takes between two and three days – after this time you will receive an email with a link allowing you to download the archive, just like what is possible at Facebook, Google and Apple.

quote message

Want to quote a message in a reply? It is very simple :

  • Touch and hold a conversation bubble
  • Touch Reply

So that your contacts know the second when you’ve read their message:

  • Go to Settings> Account> Privacy
  • Deactivate Read confirmation

Please note, this only works if you have started the group conversation yourself:

  • Long press on the message for which you want to consult the people who have read it
  • Touch Info

By default, WhatsApp asks for relatively few things to secure your account other than your phone number. This is why for security, it is better to activate two-step authentication, which prevents someone else from hacking your account if you have your smartphone stolen or change your number.

To enable two-step verification:

  • Go to Settings> Account> Two-step verification
  • Touch Activate
  • Create your six-digit code

From now on, you must enter the six digits of the PIN code when connecting for the first time on a new device.

It can be very handy to share your location data with your contacts to make it easier for you to find yourself, share real-time updates on your trip, or make the other person wait for a delay, among other examples.

Sharing your location is very easy: just choose “Location” from the menu – then you can choose to share your live location in a time ranging from 15 minutes to 8 hours. It is possible to stop sharing directly in the conversation.

You do not assume your profile picture in front of a potential employer? No need to immediately replace it with a photo of you in a three-piece suit: it is possible to choose, much like on Facebook, the audience who can see your photo.

For that, go to Settings> Privacy> Profile picture. It is then possible to choose between Everybody, My contacts, and Nobody – in order to restrict its visibility.
